Well, it's a banner day when I get to poke fun at Sean.

As you are well aware, there is a timing chain. In fact there are two!

But - we got your point.

The OP has decided to opt for a 997.5. Yeah, that should work out real well.

No need to be judgemental Docmirror. I only shared that to demonstrate that I wasnt going to need to ever be packing on massive mileage to the car or hauling kids around in "a critical time period in my life". Because I plan to be even less practical in the critical time period in my life. Being without kids and in college and not even really needing a car this is probably my best time to have a car thats not practical nor economically viable.

Truth is money is not going to be an issue. I would though, prefer for any car I get to not be an unpredictable hassle for the duration I have it and I would like to not be ripped off. So thankyou for the warnings guys but I have a hell of a safety net (another benefit yall might forget about being this age) if I were to go through all my money and on top of that Im gonna make over 10k just this summer alone of pure spending money.

So with that info in mind that I'm basically buying a for fun car please make these posts more relevant.

And on a side note though thats a beautiful car I'm not in a crunch at all so I would prefer to wait on something more regional (GSP South Carolina). But I thankyou for recommending I focus my sights on drivers and will narrow my search accordingly and maybe keep this car search alive for a while longer.

Thanks to everyone for your contributions thus far I really appreciate all the posts especially when they're not what I want to hear.

Well, judgmental and churlish is what we do. At least it's what I do. You can mark it up to my jealousy over your excessive wealth if you like.

Buy a 997. Take it to a Porsche dealer.Write checks. enjoy your summer.

See, when I was 12/13 years old I worked construction summers too. I grew up in San Diego and worked for the 'Not when the Surfs up Construction' company. If the breakers were up around 3-4', we hopped in the van, grabbed our boards and were off.

Then, I got tired of working on framing and changed jobs to tire changing in El Cajon. I was on the truck tire crew at 16. I know about glam - you betcha. Difference is, I drove a 67 Fiat 850 coupe.

I am glad you shared that so i could know you better, but I'm trained in industrial level concrete and electrical work so then I would drive a comparatively nicer car than a framer? Can we put away our Internet phallic rulers now and let anyone else provide insight to my original post if they so wish?

But - it's all I have left. You gonna take that away from me too? I thought you were all up in the 997 mode? Sorry I didn't help much.

I'm gonna go play with my ruler now. Sadly, it's graduated in nanometers.

I appreciate what you initially offered. And 997 mode isn't for 2 or 3 years or else I'd be on a different form....

Buy the 85 euro from Mrmerlin. He knows his $hit and he says it ready to roll it is. The farther away the better, there is nothing like a good road trip in your 928.

Another vote for Merlin and his expertise. Also trustworthy.

If coolant hasn't been changed it may need head gasket. Did they say anything about other rubber? I can't remember, this thread went in a couple directions.

All the guy said rubber wise was that the seals had been replaced. Guy may have been more of a salesman than a mechanic I'm not sure. He seemed pretty knowledgeable. Next time I call him I'll try and get him to explain the VIN report. At this point he seems to be sticking to the car having everything it would need to be perfect and it running when they got it. If he cant provide more details about why it hasnt been used much since 2000, if it was prepped to sit before it did, and how it was maintained these past years I'll be moving on to someones car on here that I'm more comfortable with the history.
