Default Got it running - Oxygen sensor? Really?

First, I have to say thanks for everyone's input thus far in getting my 80 L-jet running.

Last night I had a break through and then a break down. After going through all grounds, verifying 12v at the injectors, replacing green wire, cleaning fuse panel, verifying power and grounds at l-jet, cleaning up 14 pin, yes after all that I got it running.

On a kind of hail mary, I grabbed the oxygen sensor connector by the fuse panel and went to pull the plastic insulated green wire from the black plug going to the oxygen sensor in the cat, the beige plastic crumbled in my hands. I work the plug free and removed the remaining bits of plastic from the green wire and carefully plugged it back in.

Not expecting anything, I turn the key and it started up, this time it stayed running! It ran at about 1100 rpms, then dropped down to 875 or so before I switched it off. I fired it up again and seemed to idle nicely, but after a few minutes, the rpms started dropping off. It started to stall and I switched it off. I let it sit awhile while thinking about everything. I went to start her up again and back to the start and die business.

I'm happy it ran, so not a big deal. But as you can see in the picture, this plug was heavily insulated for a reason.

Where does the other end of the green wire go? I can't seem to find much about the top portion of this circuit, only the part that relates to the sensor itself with the lead to the black connector. I would love to replace it as I think it may have solved my no start issue.

From other research, will this oxygen sensor really cause the start and stall issue? I'm reading that many owners bypass the sensor.

Can this damaged plug really be what was causing the no start issue, or did I get lucky last night when it fired up?

Please any help on where the other end of the green wire goes would help. In my car, it travels through the firewall with the harness just above the ce panel, I just can't seem from above or below where it comes out of the firewall.

The wire goes directly to the ECU (right footwell panel, right of the fuse panel) pin 22. The shielding is connected at pin 23. The shielding does not connect to the O2 sensor, it just reduces interference to the signal.

I doubt this is cause the poor idle and and stalling. Have checked the temperature sensors? Chapter 24 of the WSM has a diagnostic procedure for the sensors. The sensor in the front of the water bridge could be off and impacting cold starts.

Thanks for the read. This wire does not go to the l-jet brain, exits the cabin through the firewall...

Here is the wiring diagram and the pin out for the ECU. I suppose this is the way it should be, but who knows what the PO has done.

Here is a link to the L-Jet service manual:

I can't recall where I found the manual. These documents have helped me.
