ok, if you had an automatic, it wouldn't be a solution, but you have a 5 speed.
so, if you are good with "engineering" type things, you can appreciate the logic here. in gear and and chocks on the tires, will do nothing. you need to apply the brakes!!!!!! I don't like loosening with the brakes and in 5th gear . (what gear were you using?) you cant use any other gear but 5th, or you will reduce the effect of the braking. (and you know why , right?)
I don't like loosening, because if its rusted or stuck, you might be able to produce more than 300ftlbs on the system and that might hurt something. just keep in mind, the clutch can hold near 350ftlbs of torque, but not much more. tightening, is no problem.
the wedge of wood, could work in a pinch.

No disrespect, but please refer to the OP's opening question.

Walt, I'm sorry your sense of humor is gone. This is going to be a tough car to deal with w/o one. But you probably know that. Within my obviously-meant-to-be-taken-with-a-grain-or-two-of-salt, are two serious suggestions that will lessen the pain here. And there will be pain in ownership here, esp. if you don't have any humor left. But it is worth it. End of lecture.
I will loan you the lock. Send me PM if you don't want to put an address here.
Good luck.

Thanks, Steve. My sense of humor has been totally utilized trying to keep my wife positive. No extra left for me. As far as the lock, I have one on the way, but thank you for the offer. The 928 hasnt given me any problems so far, but just demands the attention befitting such a great piece of engineering.

I tighten my crank bolt using one of the "alternate" methods. Everything was fine for a couple of years. Late week I was testing the rev. limiter, the main bolt came loose and spun completely out. The engine kept running. The timing belt and gear stayed on. It doesn't appear to have caused any damage. I was very lucky.
Could someone please sell or loan me a 1983 locking tool?

We stock and sell them for $53 each. Once you have finished with it put it on eBay and I see them sell there for $60 to $70.
