74 Pantera, it's quirky, fast, and goes thru money faster than a woman.

Market[edit]
Total sales of the SVX numbered 14,257 .....

More of one model than all cars than Lambo has ever produced. Same with Matra, and DAF. Many made it to the US, and while a bit quirky, just not up to docmirror standards, sniff-sniff.

quirky as in, "WTF is that thing?", not sales numbers.

i had no troubles with mine ('97, last year made) and it was a great GT highway cruiser, like the 928. however, i was/am hardly ever on the highway.

acceleration was so-so (230hp in a car that weighs about the same as a 928), but it was amazing it the snow - better than some later Subarus i've owned. it must have been funny to see me driving that low-slung sports car around stuck SUV's in snowstorms.

i would not buy another one - they sell now for less than $5k (most considerably less), and have been through so many teenage hands that i wouldn't want to spend the $$$ to make one right and still have it be worth like $3k. LOL

I have a 2001 Isuzu Vehicross in Proton Yellow. It actually still looks pretty radical and runs pretty well. Not worth much, so I keep it for hauling and bad weather.

These have become cult cars. So few were made that values are actually rising fast. Isuzu was odd in that they made two really innovative cars, the first Impulse (designed by Italdesign Guigiaro) and the Vehicross. The Vehicross was another car too far ahead of its time to be appreciated....it was "controversial". We know how that goes...

Hi Jon,
We had an Isuzu dealer about 1/2 mile away, and I did indeed own a 1984 Impulse turbo. It was pretty nice. Still have the Vehicross and I think it's even edgier.
Thanks,
Dave

A VX is on our watch list. We were at a PCA meeting, I casually asked a woman what her DD was, and yada yada, she and her husband both drive VehiCrosses. Owners like to think of them as PUVs, performance utility vehicles.

'01 Ebony here. I get asked about it just about every time I'm filling up at the pump. Most simply cannot believe it's a 15 year old model.

Red face 914 + Red 928

I think when you look up quirky car in the encyclopedia the first pic is of a 914.

I.ve also owned a Le Car that I put 170 thou on in 4 years-no problems at all except for wheel bearing.

So quirky-Yep.

My buddy had the Le Car, I had the SAAB. Quirky, of course. Loved that SAAB. Everyone else had Camaros and Mustangs. Trans went out and I couldn't fix it. Got a 79 turbo 5 spd after that and the same thing happened.

i would say porsche people that dont drive 911s can fall into the same quirky category. not counting the suvs and 4 doors nowadays...

ive been drawn to old land rovers my whole life. to some thats quirky, to others not so much. Maybe its only quirky that i have a 928 and a range rover classic at the same time...

It would be fair to ask if 911 owners are drawn to quirky cars, and not us so much. After all, our cars are dead conventional in their basic configuration, while theirs - especially "OB" 911s - are very strange. From this perspective, we are quirky only within the upside-down Porsche world.

From the largest perspective, however, there is no substitute for the defining Porsche:

good point. i guess i was looking at choosing a porsche that is anything but a 911 as quirky. or the larger perspective. But THEY are the quirky ones.
