Are 928 owners drawn towards quirky cars?
I mean this in a nice way. "Different drummer" and all that.
This is on my mind as I fuss over my latest acquisition, a 1995 Saab Turbo Convertible. The key is between the seats, but the large American company that is not to be named means it is not so quirky as the '82 and '86 Saabs I owned long ago. But I badly needed a convertible for my collection, something with three pedals, and something with color.
Perhaps Adam Henderson can chime in.

Been down the Saab path in the past and enjoyed it. Early 900 turbo cars, and perhaps the lowest cash cost per smile of any of the cars in my history.

Yes, "quirky" to be sure for me. I once owned an awesome 1963 Oldsmobile Cutlass F85 (215 CI aluminum block engine with a 4 barrel) that then led me to the first production turbo-charged car, 1962 Jetfire (same car as the F85 but with the turbo. Required "Turbo Fluid" (think water injection). This led me to the Chevrolet Corvair Monza of similar years (same Garret turbo as the Jetfire). I've also owned various Sunbeam Tigers and odd Ford Mustangs (1967 GTA fastback with stock 390 CI engine). The various British cars I have owned were not due to being quirky, just dumb.

My wierdest was an Audi Fox 5 cyl wagon. What a piece of crap it turned out to be.

I've always gravitated to the "quirky". That's why my first car was a '68 Cougar and not a Mustang. It is also why I've owned a SAAB 9000, an Audi Allroad, a MB R Class and a Ferrari Mondial along with the 928. I seem to love the "love it or hate it" cars.

Nope. Not me. Not a bit.
I only have the 928.
I just wish I had more time to work on it.

Well, I was really surprised at the number of people on the 928 forum with SAABs. But my quirkiness extends to more than just cars... Rangefinder cameras, shortwave radios, coffee grinders...
BTW, Curt, good luck with the new acquisition! I have the same kind of body as you do for my 9-3 cabrio. I find the structural rigidity of the GM 9-3 somewhat lacking. But I enjoy it!
(But the post 2004 and up 9-3 convertible is really amazing!)

All my previous "fun" cars were Mazda rotaries. Is that quirky? Certainly unusual, when compared to every other internal combustion engine out there. I guess that counts!

I like what I like, and try not to pigeonhole into categories.
The 928 is neat.
Do I like Saabs, no. But could I like other cars from the road less traveled? Sure.

I've had 3 Fieros. If you've never driven one they are very quick off the line. However, I don't recommend them at high speeds. Its kind of like a go cart with a v6, very fun to drive and inexpensive to own!

I've owned more than 100 cars, trucks, motorcycles over the years, virtually every one some forlorn, broken "mechanic special" so I've run the gambit from a '57 Plymouth Plaza to an '04 Civic. I still have a '62 Valiant, one of the ugliest cars built and I was 1/4 mile drag racing Kawasaki triples when no one had heard of them. The first car I actually chose for myself is my 928 and I love it.

Basically, I buy what I like and can afford. And I don't buy what I don't like and can afford. I'm not trying to be odd or trying to fit in...just being myself. Which, according to my wife...is all of that and more...lol
