Default 290 km/h and still accelerating!!

I went for a drive yesterday at around midnight on this one nice stretch of highway and decided to keep the foot down for a while since there was no other traffic and there are no exits or onramps for quite a bit of road..

With 1000 meters left to my exit I slowed down after having been up to an indicated 290 km/h and I am quite sure that there was more to give.. Man that was fast!!

Just wanted to share the experience, still have the adrenaline pumping in my system even though it was 12 hours ago..

Hi Anders,
According to my wobbly maths, that's about 181mph ?

Hmmm.... Are you sure this Porsche Design Executive did not get a specially prepared engine in his GT??? Sounds like your car might be at the top of the manufacturing tolerance. Good for you!!!

I had a Japanese friend visiting the other day, and since she had never been in a Porsche, I offered to take her for a ride. At one point I just floored it, and the car went off like a rocket. She was totally thrilled and said she now understands why people like sports cars... ;-)

Well, I didn't really have a good look at the rpm's so I'm not sure of how accurate the speedo is. I've seen a video of a stock S4 auto doing 290 indicated before so there must be more to give..

According to the manual the rev limit is at ~295 km/h real speed and next time I'll have a better look at the tacho... If there ever will be a next time, it was scary fast.

Anyone who have reached the rev limiter in a manual S4 or GT and remember what the speedo showed?

Erik, I'm not sure if I get the point..

If you mean that rude fish catching procedure I'm not at all into those action sports...

So what theoretical rpm would 290km/hr be ?

I think the rev limiter is set to 6775rpm for a GT ?

On my previous S4 i saw 285 km/h on the speedo, the tach close to 6k rpm, I remember that i calculated this to 270 km/h real speed with the 2.54 gearing and 17 inch wheels. I believe that I could have seen 290 on the speedo if I had the road.

I haven't tried my GT for top speed, yet, but someday...
