Default 1979 5 speed project back on track

After a year with no progress my 928 is now running again, frustration and financial issues caused the delay, I almost gave up on it! I got some great advice and info from these forums so I want to keep you guys updated.

I purchased it not running in 2012 (admittedly before i knew the issues these cars have, i never even heard of a 928 until i owned one), changed the starter and it fired up easily. Test drove it and the front ball cup went and after i got that sorted out another test drive ended with losing 1st and reverse, it was the rear coupler, fixed that and yet another test drive ended badly and i was left stranded on the side of the road, turning over but not firing. That was last June and it sat until last Saturday.

Now this part of the story you'll get a laugh at my expense, believe me I feel as stupid as I should... When I was stranded last June, I checked the fuses on the side of the road, I don't know if i was stressed or what but I missed it. My 928 sat for a year because of a blown fuel pump fuse
I know I checked the fuses but I assumed the worst and hit the forums, got a lot of ideas and a headache so I gave up on it for awhile.

I had the green wire and a complete set of fuses (proper ceramic ones, the PO had switched to glass cylinder type ones) sitting in my house and Saturday I got the urge to put them in and that's when i realized I was dumb.

I still have a decent length list but after new fuel lines it should be safe to drive. Body and interior are nice enough for me so that's a big thing I'm lucky I don't have to worry about. Here's my list so far, I'm sure i'll be adding to it.
-Drop tank, replace straps, soft fuel lines
-plugs, wires
-brake pad sensor
-tach, fuel, temp gauges don't work
-clean grounds
-replace intake vacuum lines
-new exhaust cat back
-new radio
-turn signals not working at all
-it's running rich, thinking it could be vacuum related?

The only weird thing since it's been running again was for about 20 minutes it was making a high pitched whistling noise. It sounded like I had a turbo. It just stopped and I haven't heard it since. I did put about 150 miles on it since Saturday trying to hear the noise again but no luck. Vacuum leak?

Hello carlson. I was a tech four years. If you think you have a vacuum leak, spray some car cleaner around the intake and when you hear the idle go up, you found the leak.

Unmetered AIR FLOW will not allow any adjustments to last. The hole gets bigger and thus more unmetered air flow. I hope that helps.

Congratulations on the renewed spirit. Post your location and see if you have any local groups or owners in your area. Most owners that I have met will go above and beyond to help a brother out. None of us like to see these sit.

I'm in northern Wisconsin, right at the point of Lake superior. I've seen a red one a few times across the bridge in Duluth Minnesota, I saw him pull into his driveway and he lives about 10 miles from me.
