VR-1 non-synthetic is on sale for $4.99 a quart at O'Reiley's when I was there on Monday.
"Oil Composition: Synthetic Blend"

ZDDP level of this oil is suspect......
http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...nverter-on-car
"Valvoline Premium Conventional, MaxLife and SynPower Motor Oils all have 830 ppm zinc"
That's interesting, when I did a long search of every 15/20w-50 oil, all had the 1100-1200 Zinc level except one European only brand.
Looking back I may have skipped the synthetic blends and if that is correct, the "regular" non VR-1 synthetic isn't good either. I guess I didn't realize they had a "regular" synthetic 20w-50 alongside the VR-1.
Their full synthetic 20w-50 is in a silver bottle:
http://www.valvoline.com/products/co...r-oil/20w-50/5
Full synthetic 20w-50 VR-1, is a black bottle:
http://www.valvoline.com/products/co...ng-motor-oil/8
If you buy the VR-1 non-synthetic, back to a silver bottle:
http://www.valvoline.com/products/co...ng-motor-oil/6
Bottom line, the only Valvoline 20w-50 that is good for our engines based on ZDDP levels are the two VR-1 racing oils.

I wasn't trying to Start a "which is better" oil thread, just passing along info for maybe your other car. I use Mobile 1 in the 87 928 and VR-1 racing NSL in the 911 SC.

Thanks for the call on this Andy, won't use it in the 928 or Merc but my pick-em-up truck eats any oil.
