Got 5 tickets today in NH, please help!
This is the first traffic stop I have had in 4 years, well here is the story. Am I going to lose my license or what?? I was heading north just out of nashua on the on the Everett turnpike at noon today, light traffic and sunny skies, I should have known better.
I am moving just alittle faster than the rest of the pack, probably 80 and I see a white suburban with a department of safety sticker, nothing else on it. He follows me at an unsafe distance, probably a few car lengths, and so I speed up to 100 very briefly to get away from him and pass one car. He then pulls me over and nails me, if it wasnt for me being nice he told me he was going to impound my car and haul me in! WTF??
Speeding at 100
Fake inspection sticker ( I put wrong one on car)
No inspection sticker
Turn signal
Unsafe lane changing
He wrote me up for doing 100 although he only paced at 80 and then said he couldnt catch me when I sped up, his car hit the speed limiter at 100, but He caught up to me in about 7 seconds, mostly because I had slowed down already before he turned his lights on.
Anyhow I feel this guy had a huge hard-on for my red porsche and wanted to make his quota, so I think I have the strategy in hand:
Have the speedometer calibrated, after all I changed the size wheel I have on a 17+year old car, its probably WAY OFF. How was I supposed to know how fast I was going is the speedo was off and everyone else was doing 80?? The cop was doing at least 78 when i passed him.
My blinker just stopped working, not sure what it is but probably a blinker module relay thingy...
I will get it inspected and claim ignorance on the inspection tickets. I had 'accidently' put a valid sticker from my other car on it. I guess it was a crime of necessity. BTW, I did have it inspected and it need some rack boots, PS hose and a mirror, all of which I had done previously.
Is now the time to get other tickets expunged?
I hope I can afford to keep her.

Looks like a ma cop moved to NH. Whats it add up to?
Firemen - awesome, EMT's - pretty good, Cops - SUCK
It's my day to spout. But on the rides i want to get going i would like to have a car or two sweep the road ahead for a mile or more and walkie-talkie back all clear for everyone else to enjoy an autobahn like experience. Everytime i drive my car i am looking for those aholes, it really ruins an otherwise great time.

COPS- I agree SUCK, they should just leave the 928's alone, its the DOT's fault for letting them into the country, you know, a 928 car that runs better at 150 rather than at 55.

Does the speedo calibration repair and show of receipt in court have an effect in beating a ticket? I used to hear that a mecahanical problem, if fixed by a repair shop and directyl related to the citation could have a significant effect in the outcome.
I had beaten a cops citation in court on another two ticket traffic stop 10 years ago.

I have one word for you: EVIDENCE.
That is all judges will respond to.
If it is just your excuses, versus the cop's story, they will just slam you, and ignore you.
They consider it *your* responsibility to get those things fixed before you drive the car.
They would much rather collect your money than let you off the hook.
The only time I got out of a parking ticket, was when I told them that my car had overheated,
and that I had parked in a red zone, because the car was disabled... They only accepted
that defense, when I presented a receipt from a parts store, dated that day, for coolant purchase.
Without that receipt, the considered my story just that. A story. A fable. An excuse.
I might consider using the "tailgating" excuse. That you felt threatened by the truck tailgating, and so you accelerated, and got out of his way. You did not keep accelerating. You moved over. But once again, that will be seen as a story, or excuse, unless you have a witness testifying that you were indeed just trying to get away from what you considered a dangerous vehicle. Filing a complaint about his driving with the police department would also help. To prove that you indeed felt he was not driving safely, and that your complaint is independent of trying to get out of the ticket....

There are several law firms specialized in traffic citations.
Don't try to do it on your own, they'll get you off the hook.
If it is your first ticket you probably don't have to pay a dime.
Here in Florida it's a company called "The Ticket Clinic".
I have used them four times in the past eight years and I never got "convicted" on the speeding ticket, but on my last one the judge nailed me with court fees for $168.
I never got cought doing 100 MPH, but I am sure you will get off.
Remember: In dubio pro reo. (That's what gets you off, he does not have proof without a doubt)
Good luck, cheers,
Sab.

Sab,
Thats a very good phrase "In dubio pro reo", I will use that one.
Lizard,
Interesting comment on the safe distance, it really only makes sense and I hope thats true in NH.
I am looking at motorists.org for information and hopefully can build a good case dispute. My 928 is too much fun to let one bad traffic stop ruin it.
BAD COP= NO DONUT!!

1.) Speeding at 100 - Ask to see the proof. Admit to speeding a bit, but not 100. To my knowledge, they have to prove you were speeding with something other than the officer's word. Afterall, any cop could just sit on the side of the road and wait for a car to pas and then pull over. "Well, you looked like you were speeding, and I had to speed to catch you..." That doesn't seem quite right.
2.) Fake inspection sticker ( I put wrong one on car) - Provide judge with correct one, and the receipt of when you got it. That should take care of that. It usually works with the "No Insurance" and "Out of date registration" tickets as well.
3.) No inspection sticker - See above. And, it is close enough to be considered "double jeapordy" which is illegal in some states.
4.) Turn signal - You can try the tailgaiting line of reasoning. You moved over quickly because you wanted to get out of the other cars way.
5.) Unsafe lane changing - See above.
Be nice, be respectful, and be meek when you see the judge. I have been in you place before, and got out of every charge. Driving to fast for weather conditions (light misty rain), speeding (his word against mine - never clocked me), tailgating (he was coming toward me at night) , & no insurance (lost the card) all at the same time.

A few years ago a cop friend of mine owned a Daytona Z, he sped from one light to the next which is about a 1/4 mile. He then turned around and stopped in my friends garage and told us he hit 95 mph at the top of the second light, then he had to leave to go to work. About an hour later he pulled over a speeder, which was right in front of my friends garage, he came out of his police cruiser and begun yelling at the guy for doing 55 in a 30 and then said "where do you think you are , on a highway"? and gave the guy a ticket. If I had any ***** I would of told him off. What gives him (cop) the right to do 95 in a 30? Double standards. IMHO cops are the first to break the laws the only difference is that they get away with it. Reno

I have received many tickets from Milford, Amherst and NH State Boys. Cops are more relaxed here in the midwest, but I'd rather be in NH still.
Sounds like he wanted you to speed up. I always look twice. While you did the "correct" thing by getting out of his lane it is seen as "bad" in our legal system.
I have a NH state trooper....Female try to write my up for failure to yield right. You can't win, if they want to write you up they will find a way to do so.

That does sound like double jeapordy to me, writing two tickets for one inspection sticker.
If I were choosing who to pay, I think I would rather give my money to a lawyer than the government, or Id rather pay a repair shop for proof of compliance. Paying the government means being guilty and also taking points which means higher insurance too in NH. I never have paid a traffic lawyer, but what do they charge? I am going to do a discovery on the officers notes for what his proof is currently.

a couple of points the only ones that would cause loss of licence is the speeding and unsafe lane change, however both of these are fairly easy to get out of, as per the reg sticker again show the right one and when it was done, mistakes happen noones perfect, I doubt they will nail you for it, also EVERYTIME you get pulled over for speeding ask to see the #'s on the gun if they cannot provide them to you the ticket is pretty much void as they HAVE to have a min of 2 pieces of evidence when they go to court, and you can always tell the cop that you were speeding away cause your wife just ran off with a cop and you thought he might have been trying to give her back

Last summer I was going to Road America with a friend who was driving his 2000 GTI. I pulled into the left lane to pass him (going no more than 75) and this suspicious looking car started gaining on me. Once he was right behind me I could see his uniform. I called my buddie on the cell, told him "Hit the cruise control between 60 and 65" He knew why. We stayed side by side for about 10 miles like that. He eventually took an exit.
So if you are ever on the highway and see a cop cruising down the left lane with no lights on. Get in front and do about 64mph.
