Default Oil Filter

Doing an oil change today and couldn't find a Mann filter locally. Napa sold me a Napa Gold (#1285). When I got home and compared the old Mann and the new Napa, the Napa is 3/4" shorter and 1/16" less circumference. I'll need a new oil filter wrench to start with to get it off, but should I use this or mail order in some Mann filters?

Less filter surface is not good. You might end up having a larger pressure drop through the filter and less filtering or less life. I would stick to the Mann the downsides are too expensive.
