Default looking at a 928...

Hey guys, im looking at coming over to the dark side. Ive had a number of 4 cyl cars but know very little about the 928's idiosyncrasies...

Its a local '85 928s for sale. Black on black, 79,000 miles, fresh paint job (4 years ago), and its a 5 speed. The exterior trim and rubber is all 5 years old. has h4 headlights.

The bad is that the windshield is cracked, hasnt had a timing belt in 12 years

The guy inherited it from his father a decade ago and he drove it very sparingly since then. 300 miles in fact. Its got a dash cover that doesnt look terrible, the steering wheel has changed color with age, and the gauge cluster trim is a little loose.

Im not worried about resale value as Id like to have this car for a while but i dont want to be crazy upside down either. at least at first...

So the bottom line is that he is advertising it at 7600, but told me he gave another guy 6 grand as the price so he offered that as well. Thanks for any input!

Chris

forgot to mention, its been in the same family for 15 years. Also, no radio or speakers for some reason... AC "needs to be charged" so take that for what its worth. heater works great. Thanks again!

Sounds like a good price. I paid 10k for my Black 85 5-speed last year and still needed to do all the normal delayed maintenance stuff. I do it myself for fun so the costs aren't that bad for me. Good 32v 5-speeds aren't the easiest cars to find especially if you have to have a manual like I did. I'd have someone that knows these cars check it out with you just to be sure.

Thanks for the reply! I agree the price seems great. Im willing to learn timing belt stuff and im fairly handy already in regards to brakes etc. what scares me are the electrics. my pain tolerance is pretty high there too though since i also have british cars...

Hi- I see you are in Asheville- I grew up (sorta) right down the hill in Hickory. Look at the Sharks in the Mountains thread at the top of the page. Jump into whatever you are driving and head over there! You will meet great folks from the list and see some great 928's. You are too close to miss this opportunity!
