928 window tinting options
I was thinking about having my windows tinted. I was looking for input/feedback about the tinting %'s and Pic's of peoples 928 that have there windows done. Are there any issues around tinting that should be noted?
Thank you in advance.

I recommend getting ceramic tint, a little more expensive but it performs much better. Also consider your interior colors when selecting a %. A lighter color interior (linen, beige, etc) will give the illusion of a lighter shade of tint. The same % tint will look darker against a black interior.

Marc, it looks great. Do you have a picture of your car outside?
ladybug, good point...never thought about the interior...
I'm don't want to go too dark...but i just don't know what (too dark) is.

i had a pro come out and do my car. used 3M's fancy stuff.... i don't think it was ceramic. and he did a fantastic job. watching him pre form the cuts for the quarter windows was pretty interesting to watch.

The place I get my tinting done has a neat display. It's basically a heat lamp in a box, and it has different interchangeable "cards" representing different types of tint. So you put your hand in the box, and you can feel the heat from the lamp through the selected "card". The clear ceramic tint (45%) blocks way more heat than even the darkest of the regular tint (5% charcoal I believe). That's what sold me. Wasn't too much more expensive, I did my whole car including the windshield, I think the ceramic was $50-$100 more than if I had them install the regular tint.

Wincos makes the ceramic.
Link for the place that did mine, they have some product info on there that may be helpful. No affiliation to products or business, but definitely recommend the business if you're local. Friendly, family owned, and excellent results IMO

They've done 5 cars for me, the Ladybug will be #6. Im planning to do the lady with 45% windscreen, 35% all the way around the rest. Against my black interior, I think it'll look plenty dark. For me anyways.
Another thing to consider is your local laws, in CA, ANY tint on the windscreen and front door windows is illegal. Not a moving violation, but a "fix-it" ticket still, and reasonable suspicion (so they can pull you over for that alone). Most cops here in southern ca aren't too concerned about tint because so many people do it (as in most arid areas Im sure), rule of thumb is, as long as they can see you (and your hands) through the tint, they won't give you a hard time about it. But it is cause to think about how dark you go on the front windows. I was cited a few years back for tint, but that was better than +20 over posted speed limit that I was pulled over for. Cop gave me a big break by just giving me the tint "fix-it" ticket. Cost me $25 and I had to remove tint. Plus the cost of re-tinting after I got the fix-it ticket signed off
Anyways back to the thread topic. I took some pics of my Subaru, windscreen is 45%, front doors windows are 35%, everything else rearward is 25%. The white fence in the background is a rough gauge of the contrast between shades. You can also see the cream and black color interior in the car and how it shows through the different shades.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost to get it done?

Kent,
If this isn't 'side' enough, I will have to take another pic for you. Tinting was just done a couple weeks ago and I haven't taken any beauty shots lately.
Re rear window visibility. For me during the day there is good visibility. At night, it is pretty dark. I knew this going in - Florida summers are really hot and the rear window in these cars lets in tons of heat. For me in Florida I wouldn't have gone anything less than the legally allowed maximum. Plus my 928 doesn't have rear A/C - most (or maybe all?) Canadian delivered vehicles don't. I have noticed a huge difference since the tinting was done. Just in time for Florida summer.

Love to see a 90 degree angle. My concern with the rear being dark, is it makes it challenging to back up at night...and a claustrophobic rear seat area...not that i suffer from that...or will i be sitting back there
