Someone made a good suggestion about how to manage so many cars trying to stay together for the Fun Run -- Don't Their suggestion was to split the Fun Run into smaller packs, each with a leader who knows where they are going. Might also be good to have some stop-and-regroup points along the way. Maybe one of these could be a nice Pub (The Hunter's Head Inn, Upperville, VA comes to mind, or nano-brew pubs). Stopping along the way allows for some banter about the drive and sights...would be fun over some locally brewed ales. There are several good "nano brew pubs" in the Purcellville area....some of these pubs take micro brewing to the extreme and always have something experimental or unusual on tap. Some are high alcohol...so gotta be careful.

Great suggestion Jon.

I agree with Bertrand, that sounds like a lot of fun!

Gonna trippple on the thumbs up for this. I've noticed even in my local PCA that even if there are only six cars, you get significant differences between the speeds people are interested and/or willing to drive. We're going to split our fall drive up into a 'Drivers' and 'Tourists' groups for the drive, with the groups meeting up at way points along the route.

I don't have a 928 because I want to tear up the road; that's why I have a 951!

Shawn - good idea to split into the "Drivers" and "Tourists" groups. Driving fast is a really bad idea in Virginia, anyway. Getting caught going 20+ mph over the limit will get your "reckless" and a better than 50/50 chance you will spend some days in jail. Given all that...I am thinking about roads that have lots of curves for carving, and lots of nice scenery, good food, and good beer.

Here are some waypoint candidates:

Hunter's Head Tavern
http://www.huntersheadtavern.com (I eat and drink here often. It's owned by one of the co-founders of Cisco Systems and all the meats and produce come from the all-organic Ayrshire Farm - also owned by the same person. The beers on tap are excellent...Smithwick's ales and of course Guiness, and an ever-changing 3rd and 4th option. The pub menu is great and not pricey. Stuff on the regular menu is pricey...and outstanding. Problem is, we might need to make reservations...It's a popular hangout for the rich and famous around Middleburg. It's one of my favorite places to stop while taking my 928 for a stretch.)

Adroit-Theory Brewery
http://www.adroit-theory.com (gothic/celtic tattoos very very very welcome at this place...I liked several very much, and some wrere a bit to experimental/creative)

Belly Love Brewery
http://www.bellylovebrewing.com (I haven't been here yet, but I hear really good things about it...like the Fat Buddha logo).

The Corcoran Brewery
http://www.corcoranbrewing.com (It's very good, and more traditional, but good variety. While Adroit is a bit of step outside one's comfort zone - nothing wrong with that - the Corcoran is "familiar" and very good.)

All three of the brew pubs are within 10 minutes of each other.

Jon,

Those look like great places.

One question, my 13 years old daughter might be with us this year.
Are children allowed in these places?

Bertrand -
The Hunter's Head is child friendly for sure. The Corcoran and Belly Love are likely child friendly. I'll check. The Hunter's Head is a car club destination. On two different occasions I've seen more Lamborghinis and Shelby Cobra roadster replicas than I could count filling the parking lot. Makes me wonder if we need to coordinate with them. I'll look into it. Hunter's Head has a really nice outdoor eating area/garden, completely surrounded by stone walls. I'll recon and ask questions at all places and post pics.

Jon, thanks for all this info! This is shaping up really well, thanks to your bird-*******, and I am actually planning to make up for missing SITM this year by spending Friday and Saturday nights up there for the first time. The sometimes stable hand and groom has already given notice of the dates he will be off the ranch...

Ha, and again you won't be a party of 1! But if the Ugly Duckling can make the trip, she'll get me there...

Fraggle - want some help? Have you surveyed the situation and determined the tasks ahead?

I have a feeling you would really like the Adroit-Theory brew pub.

Thanks Martin - There are many nice scenic twisty roads that lead to pubs (or vineyards/wineries) in western Loudoun. You probably have a lot down your way, too.

My car has one "need" before Frenzy - install the new brake master cylinder. I'd like to replace the center and footwell HVAC flap actuators (have them on a shelf ready to go)...maybe fix a previous someone's wiring mistakes and connect the stereo properly. We'll see...but definitely the MC.

Quick Reply: Is the Frenzy on for this year..?
