Argh - Lost My Driver Side Exterior Mirror!
Half way into my drive to work I glanced to my side mirror and it was all black.
Took me a few seconds to realize that the mirror section had fallen off.
Damn.
I'm thinking I can buy just the mirror piece?

Yes, you can, but they're a tad pricey ($160-180)- it's really 2 pieces, the mirror glass, which is adhesed to a plastic frame that has the locking ring to connect to the motor.
The driver's side mirror glass is 965 731 035 00.
As an aside, if anyone ever needs just the glass (say, you're a dumbass like me and crack the glass after letting the frustration of the mounting scheme get to you), broken Aero glass can be peeled from the frame and replaced with Burco 2813 (driver's side) or 3613 (passenger side) glass. They do not have the embedded heating element, but are otherwise functionally identical to OEM.

Had similar happen in December, walked out into garage and both driver and passenger side mirror glass laying on the floor. Plastic frame still in place just looked like the adhesive had finally failed and the mirror glass had fallen out, good news is that neither was broken! A little 2 part epoxy and clamp to each mirror and they have been good ever since.

I can't imagine the adhesive failing on an Aero mirror glass, it is tenacious stuff.

OK, thanks.

Randy, did you lose _just_ the glass, or the whole glass+mounting plate?
If the former,

Hey, Rob -
Just the glass. The black rubber backing and attachment assembly is still there.
Those are great prices! Bought the one on eBay.
You da man!

My drivers side mirror glass came loose one day. Fortunately I spotted it immediately and the glass was still being held on by a few strands of adhesive that had some adhesion left in it.
Remounted the glass with some two sided tape but got the alignment slightly less than perfect- pointless trying to pull it off again so it is slightly on the **** but one has to look very carefully to spot this.
Never ceases to amaze me the number of rabbits Mr Edwards manages to pull out of his hat for this forum!

While waiting for the replacement mirror to arrive -
This is what my mirror looks like now. Do I need to first remove that black rubber backing or install the new mirror onto it with the supplied double-sided tape? I will remove the hard back assembly from the mirror housing to install the new mirror.
