And then see how the replacement fits in the concavity of that rubber backing. My guess is that the glass is to be stuck directly to that backing.

Randy's outta luck, but if you have flag mirrors you can replace the driver's side with a convex from the pass. side and have better rear view. At least, imo. 'Course the t-rex warning is upside down and on the top, but ....
