Okay, lets say the belt broke...would this car not start without oil pressure? Is there a protection feature to limit starting without oil pressure?

Also, do you get oil pressure after you've cranked it over for a bit? Checking the belt would seem easy enough...ruling out its involvement.

Another also, do you have a test light or DVM to check for power at since locations?

All cars have no oil pressure when they start.

If the belt broke, the car wouldn't start because the cams aren't moving anymore...

That's what I'm getting at...it should be an easy check to rule out this as a suspect.

The OP mentioned his exclamation light flicking on and someone mention oil pressure issues...and I wasn't sure if these cars had some sort of protection feature..they seem to have everything else covered by some over-engineered item to light the dash up for no real reason...like the brake pad wear monitor system...I mean really...come on...put a stinking metal tab on the pad and call it a day...lol

Anyhow, I somewhat "knew" the cams didn't turn if the timing belt is broken...and the oil pump doesn't move either...so that was my point in my original post...and that's why I "recommended" checking it out. Personally, I have no idea what the OP's mechanical skills are...so I thought I'd recommend some basic checks to rule out the obvious.

Good luck to the OP.

Fixed.

We jumped the fuel pump relay and the pump started pumping. Then we turned the ignition and it started right up.

Then we replaced the fuel pump relay and it started up normally. Bureau13 was right on the money And Karl Ruiter as well.

It was so odd because I already replaced that fuel pump relay with one of the other relays. I am going to exchange all the relays with brand new ones because these old ones are simply not reliable.

Again, thanks a lot for all the advice. You guys knew the problem without seeing the car! Awesome

Just to be safe, check the positive battery terminal connection...not the main cable, but the smaller wire attached to the battery terminal connector. I had a similar problem that I "fixed" several different ways before finding that that connection was corroded and loose.

It was a little photoshoot close to me in De Steeg, Holland, last year in June. It was a nice day with about ten cars and a two models who needed some portfolio material. I had a great day
