Default 89 Water pump?

Hello!

for my 89 white/navy 5 speed..

Think its time for a new water pump!

anyone have ideas or suggestions on what is the good one to get?

I found this site - but so many options.. want to keep it original.. but does it matter much for resale? better to get a high performance pump?

http://www.928cooling.com

thanks!

Contact ed@perfexmfg.com, ask if he's still making the Guardian Water Pump.
I'm running one in my 89, and I'm very happy with it.

Just last week, one of the LASO pumps failed a fellow Las Vegan 928 owner, with only 3 years service and nowhere near the recommended mileage change interval.

I had some email conversations with Ed about those last year, he was still making them at that time. Sometime this calendar year I'll be doing my TB/WP so I hope he's making them still...that's what I want to get...

Any post mortem on exactly what failed? Was it purchased new or a rebuild?

I spoke with Glenn yesterday evening, he hasn't got down to the pump yet. Just pulled the top covers. He said he smelled burnt rubber when he loaded the car on the trailer, and again when unloading. He thinks the bearing seized, with around 12 to 15K on the pump. New Laso, from one of our suppliers.

I don't want to speak out of turn, so I'll have him post what he finds out. Said one of the timing gears will need replacing, and that he used a used set last time as new replacements weren't available at that time. Also has one of Ken's tensioners, as do I.

Yes. Would be better if they were plastic but of the available options right now I think it's the most reasonable overall choice. I have an new 'old' NOS factory WP with a metal impeller that I'm putting on the next Zombie motor- In the unlikely event the impeller migrates and machines the block I'll have Greg fix the block. I think a new bearing pressed in a new casting is the most important part of the equation, in terms of the damage that can result from the various types of failures.

Unfortunately the GEBA is now the only choice in the 87 to 95 cars unless you want to pay $1134 for a Porsche version - not many do!!!
I agree with Sean - time will tell on the GEBA.

One GOOD thing about the GEBA is the price - $295 928srus Buy them before the price goes up as I am sure it will as eggs are eggs!!

Carl sells the gold plated version for $695 but he has a racing habit to satisfy.
928 Int sells them for $395.
