New to me, 85 928. :)
It's really for the 16.7yr old, starting her permit period, and when she's ready about August/Sept, it'll be ready for her. She'll see Sharktoberfest too.
Top/Front end job to be done, and then TT.
Talked the guy fro $4k to $2k, then pulled the MAF plug to verify "the real problem..." and wrote the check. Owner was speechless, but happy it's to a home where it'll get attention.
It passed smog last October just before the MAF failed and it's sat since then..it gets a new MAF Wednesday night and we drive it home.

I think it's a good car for a kid. This assumes that the kid has the proper maturity. If not, even a Volvo will be dangerous to the kid. Up to the parent to know.

EVERY car is a lot of car for a beginner.
The car is never the problem. Teens are well capable of killing themselves and others in a Toyota Yaris. Which happened down the street from me..it's not the horsies that do it.
THIS one..has been involved in racing since before walking, involved in NASA, and helps run the Teen Driving Clinic, and is capable of landing a Cessna, an Arrow, and a Bonanza should the parent(s) become incapacitated.
And unlike prior teen examples here...dose that drop a small hint...has to pay for the car too.

Ya..there's an 82 Euro S in Ocala I had looked at. Runs fairly well, but has significant work to be done to repair rust under the windows around the back half of the car, and the rest of the body is full of filler with a quickie re-spray.
It runs well enough..nicely I was told.
The guy there wants $3500, it's not worth much more than $2k...if a strong 4.7 Euro S motor is what you want..AND cup wheels.

Wish my dad was as cool....and had such great taste in cars....as you. My first car was a VW POS, but it saved my life, by never ever running!
She's got an awesome dad!

I like to think so. But it might be the Sr Class "coolest car" in the yearbook vote that takes place..I cant tell.
My first car was a 66 bonneville, 4 door.
Good snow drift ramming car.

I'm sure there is a Logic Fallacy here in saying that a car that can reach higher speeds faster is not very different from the opposite because one can get hurt in both.
Obviously it's the safety of the car that makes the difference.

But wow! down by half..... can i ask you to shop for a 86.5 automatic for me? Bartering is a skill which I don't have any command of.

Brian - it's actually one of the safest cars you can give a kid. Read Michael Wilhoits' account of a drunk driver plowing into him one night. He was in his 928, which was destroyed. He and his wife survived a crash he said that in any other car would have more seriously injured or killed them.
The tin can that hit Wilhoit that night had just as much to do with how Michal and his wife survived, if not more so.
The "staple" of vehicle safety is the Volvo wagon, few people would ever argue against that. A few years ago 5th gear staged a head on crash test between a Volvo 940 wagon and a modern Renault econobox. Most would have placed strong bets on the Volvo, when in reality the Renault pulverized it and the occupants in the much smaller car fared better.
We cannot forget the 928 is a 1970's design. No matter how far ahead of the times they were, the automotive industry caught up and surpassed it a long time ago. If you put a gun to my head and said pick a 2016 VW Beetle or a 928 for a 30mph collision with each other, I wouldn't hesitate to jump behind the wheel of the VW.
My comments are in no way shape or form directed at the decision Speedtoys made with this car for his daughter. I was driving my fathers 928 at age 16 and now it's in my garage. He knows his daughter better than anyone and if she's taught to respect such a vehicle (and I believe she has), it's a great starter car.
