Default Stranded, Looking for help / suggestions

I'm in the 928 on the way to pick up my brother in Omaha to go to a family funeral in Michigan. I'm in Gallup NM with a failing water pump. It is leaking water almost as fast as I pour it in. No problem with overheating, just leaking badly. I was hoping to make it to ABQ, but that is not going to happen.
All of the rental car outlets here are already closed for the day. I'm in a hotel for the night near the Gallup airport.

My current plan: Park the shark at the Gallup airport, rent a car there and continue to Omaha, return to Gallup the fist week of May in the rental car, have AAA flatbed the shark to ABQ to someplace that can replace the water pump. Does anyone know of a place in ABQ that knows 928s? I hate leaving the car parked here for over a week but don't think I have a choice.
Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Bump to keep on top page.
The only help I can offer is to advise you not to eat at the T/A truck stop in ABQ.

Any thoughts about using a cooling system stop leak additive to get you where you need to be?

Anyone have suggestions on one that works well?

As far as additives goes...I'd say he past that point...if it is leaking out as fast as it is going in...odds are he has a bearing failure...so he is really, really taking a chance at driving the car any farther. You surely wouldn't want to do any furture damage.

To bad you hadn't made it to your destination...I know a mechanic that could have knocked that job out...(me).

Randy - my buddy lost his engine with that stuff (MY '84). It clogged the insides and ruined it. I would never put that stuff in the engine of any car I own. I've never read anything good about stop leak products from those who work on engines for a living.

Check all of RL for a member nearby...probably better in their driveway/garage than at the airport. then ship the car to someone you know and trust to work on it. Shipping costs will not exceed the risk of an unknown shop.

Sigh, I don't suppose that this is all that helpful but, the 928 Owner's Group maintains a list of those who can provide roadside assistance. Accessing this, however, requires a membership and I have let mine lapse or I would have let you know if anyone in your area is a Florence Nightingale.

Thanks for the good thoughts.

This is starting to look like it is in the "too hard to do category."
The water pump is too far gone for stop leak--which I would not want to use anyway.
I am a member of 928oc. But it doesn't recognize my user name/password or my email address to get my user name/password.
It looks like I may have to go to plan B and rent U haul truck and trailer (if I can find one) and take it back home, missing the funeral.

Glenn, I tried to get the list of roadside assistance members from the owners club website, and it won't let me access the page. I too am a member, and I'm pissed this is important information that should be available to any 928 owner! That was the original intent. I know there are some New Mexico members.

I'll keep working on it.

+Same here. Couldn't sign in to get the info. you need.

Lots of options for you in Albuquerque, but that won't help.

Wish I could come up with the names of a few New Mexico members who, I'm sure, would be glad to help.

If the other option (getting a trailer) won't work for some reason, try sending an email to 928OC member Joe J. at: jjungabq at gmail.com. He's in Albuquerque, but he may be able to help in some fashion.

Go with your plan to rent a car at the airport (or fly...). Or go to a neighborhood renatl office (often cheaper) and borrow a parking space from them. That will buy you a few days to make a recovery plan. The car will be fine at the airport, just park it near the attendant's shack. Your most important mission is to get your brother and attend the family gathering.

The last saved-out road help list I have is a 2006 (per-OC stewardship) version, and it has no listings for NM at all. Way out of date!

I looked at the roadside assistance on the OC website. The only NM was Albuquerque and the info is 4+ years old:

Contact info
Jake 208-301-7052
Moparmyers@gmail.com

I have a good collection of tools and a garage with a concrete floor.
No lift, but i know a shop that is 928 orianted if we cant fix it!
can get most parts overnight in my area from mult 928 parts sources including Porsche
I have a Diesle truck and a good chance of getting a trailer if needed
Let me know whats up and i will see what i can do!

Thanks JWise, But that is old info. Jake (ducman) is now in LA.

Dr. Bob, I agree family is the important thing here. But Gallup NM is not Vegas. The only car rental office open today doesn't open up for another hour. I'm still 15 hours from Omaha, then another 12 to Michigan (UP). I'm running on virtually no sleep and my emotional gas tank is empty. Not sure if I could make the 15 hour drive non stop. Which is why I said this is moving into the "too hard to do" category.
