Have to deduct 25% of the asking price for the obvious bumper filler used on the right two. The original one on the left will command a better price in the long run. Otherwise a very well presented specimen or three.

Yes, but "what someone might happen to pay" is a meaningless starting point if you want to sell a 928. You don't go out there and say "who wants to buy a 928, make me an offer!" - it will waste pretty much everyone involved's time.

Its useful to have an idea of an expected sale price which the car could achieve with a reasonable probability, in its given market.

Setting a price expectation is based upon a combination of factors - comparable sales, time horizons, available credible alternatives, fashion, demographics, geography etc. Get it right, and the the customer will be willing to use your asking price as an opening point in negotiation to actually buy the car.

Get it wrong, and it'll either be snapped up within hours or minutes of being noticed by the market (e.g. Jim Doerr's 89 GT, Dave C's Iris GTS etc.) leaving much money on the table, or it'll be for sale forever and the seller will be forced to reduce price repeatedly, making potential buyers suspicious, and pushing the price down below comparable vehicles.

Granted, many, many, 928 sellers fall into the over-priced category.. lots of 928's for sale fall in asking price by 50% before they sell A sure sign of a car overvalued by its owners
