Mystery Hardline Identification - 928
Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum and trying to put my project 928 back on the road. It's been sitting for 8 years and I'm slowly working through the issues that caused it to be left unused for so long.
I'm trying to identify a mystery hardline pipe that I pulled out of the very back of the engine after removing the air cleaner and exposing the fuel distributer. It seems to run directly behind the fuel distributer and links one side of the engine block with the other. Perhaps it's some kind of oil return line or something? I have been scratching my head trying to figure it out for weeks and have been through the PET guide trying to find it but have had no luck identifying it. I hope I haven't been too vague in my description. I'll try and include a few photos to help.
Any suggestions would be very well received. Thank you

Apologies for the massive photos...didn't know they'd upload to such a big resolution. But atleast you get more of an idea now. The rusted out right angled pipe on the left.
Thank you
Thank you

Hi welcome to the tank. It would be really useful if you could tell us the year of your car and if it is a USA or ROW car.
Looks like the EGR valve from an early 16v.

Difficult to make out the first pictures - either EGR or Air pump. Second picture looks like air pump. So may all be air pump as I do not think Australian delivered cars had EGR.

This image should be quite a lot bigger. The rusted section broke apart when I was taking it off but it should be at a right angle as per the pictures above. Hope it helps. Appreciate all the help btw

Here's what the different versions look like... the one on the left is from a 1980 without an air pump. Yours is the one on the right - as already mentioned, air pump inlet, this one is from a 1979 engine. This is what it would look like if it was intact. The T that is rotted out on yours connects to a one-way valve, which is still attached in the picture.
