I'm building a new battery box for my 79 out of a 20mm ammo box. It's been a bit set back thanks to this semester winding down though.
Before I made it I needed the battery to get some dimensions set and my dad went ahead and got me one since he had an old one to return anyways.
Well he got me a large duralast AGM with 95Ah. Now I was thinking a smaller battery to spare space in the box for some extra storage(jumper cables, random tools, aux. fuse bar, small inverter); I'd compartmentalize the box so the free space doesn't have stuff just tossed on top of the battery.
Now although I could return the battery and get something smaller.... I could also use this beast to run accessories, but other than a small inverter to charge laptops and such and maybe an amp I can't think of anything.
So what have any of you installed or have wanted to install or run electrically in your car? Microwave, minifridge, xbox and tv... and where would it go???
The battery box is an inconvenient storage space in general - just too deep down. I do have an extra fuse block there - to fuse some of the supplies that Porsche didn't bother to fuse at all. I have an audio cap, switch and charging Rx above that area (in the cutout) - the battery box gets much too hot for that. I'd say generally keep it simple and close to stock - double insulating the box on the exhaust side - say double wall with airflow and/or internal/external thermal insulation - would be worthwhile for battery life.
Do make a vent for the battery outgassing if the battery is vented (AGM's usually aren't though).
Is the spare wheel cavity already spoken for ? I have air pump, jumper cables, VW wheel nuts etc in there. Sounds like you mean electrical wieirdness, not general weirdness?
I have my electric fan temp sensor on the top hose, and an LED in the dash across it, so I can relate fans running to temp gauge. To me, with the std bottom sensor there was a weird lag between gauge and fans.
Trickle charger socket under the rear license plate, with a fused connection direct to the battery.
I only have 2 amps in my 81, I will add another soon to power the door speakers though for ~ 770 watts of ear bursting RMS power :P for when 700 just isn't enough.
One lives on the fuse panel and the other inside of the spare tire. The weirdest thing I did aside from my audio system with a base tube buckled into a back seat is adding a stock rear ash tray to get an extra charging port.
Not installed by me, previous owner made this to have a variable exhaust. It's nice to be able to go from full bore race car sound to civil in a split second.....
This is attached to my 79 behind MSDS headers, no other mufflers. It's packed full of fiber fill the same as any off the shelf muffler.

Eric - I like it, that is very well done! You need a solenoid linkage for that with a big red button on the console that says "LOUD"
Since we are on the anything goes track - I have an auxiliary battery (Odyssey PC680MJ installed (no real battery 'box') in the passenger front fender. tricky to do but fits easily.

That's on the to-do list
Next winter I plan on dropping the exhaust to have the headers re-coated. The coating is 20+ years old and the rest of the exhaust doesn't look that good either.

I am considering exhaust dumps ever since I had to drive our Blazer with a 350 with open headers to the muffler shop.
I'd be looking at maybe immediately after the cat and dumping straight down to keep the twin pipe sound, also driving away would kick up some dust...
