Informal Poll: S3 cars, Porken chips and injectors
I want to hear from folks with the '85-'86 32v cars and Porken's S300 chips.
Are you using stock injectors, or something else (e.g. newer 4-hole injectors) and if non-stock, has everything been as-expected?
I realize this will just be anecdotal information, for the most part, but every time I try to make a decision about sending my stock injectors to Witchhunter vs buying some "new" (I think they're actually refurbished Ford injectors) 4-hole replacements I get feedback that makes me rethink everything.
The reason I'm adding in the Porken chip angle is a conversation on another thread about injector latency differences across injectors with the same flow ratings, and the fact that Ken's site expressly mentions stock injectors, and while I don't have those chips yet, they are in my upgrade plans.

So what injectors does Ken recommend?
I have a later car. Went through the replace vs. clean decision process, and decided to get new. No issues at all since then. I'd do the same thing again. I probably have enough plumbing and flush tools to clean my old ones, but still went with new. Good for another 100k with any luck at all. Don't over think it; the brain drain costs more than the parts.
I had a ride in Darrien's 86.5 with Ken's chips in it when it was on its way from Wa to Cali. Ran great, sounded great with the new smarts and parts in it. I highly recommend the upgrade.

Thanks for the info. Ken's website says stock injectors, although I haven't been able to get an actual decree on stone tablets (yet )

I was an early adopter/test mule for Ken. I replaced my injectors with Ford 4 hole injectors, same flow rate as stock.
Not to try to start an argument but injectors are wear items in my opinion and as such, when they have X-number of duty cycles on them, they should be replaced instead of refurbed. I got a great deal on my Ford injectors and I understand they aren't available for that price anymore (used to be able to get them from Ford Racing or something like that for $200/set of 8.).
I would recommend replacing them and I would definitely recommend Ken's chips. I'm a huge fan. My car is a free-revving beast thanks to his chips.
BTW- I'm not sure how the injector latency thing comes into the discussion. The injectors are 'batch-fire' so it makes a 'cloud' of gas/air mixture with each firing and then sucks it into through the intake valves when it's time for each cylinder. I don't think perfect timing is as important as atomization of the gas, which would be much more efficient (again, IMO) with a new injector with 4 holes than with one that's been banging away for 30 years.

Aren't even the Ford replacements refurbed now? I'm pretty sure Roger told me that the ones he sells are....do actual, new replacements that don't need to be cut or modified in any way exist?

I'm afraid I haven't looked in a while. I thought the 19 lbs injectors for the S4+ models needed some mods but the Ford racing 24 lbs injectors are drop-in replacements for the S3s. At least they were when I got mine. Are they NLA? I don't know.

I have 19lb EV6 injectors on my blower car at the moment, I had the blower off while chasing a starting/running problem that turned out to be the LH. No mods other than the 928S4 lower O rings, which are not standard. There is some concern about the injector clips and some injectors lack the groove for them. I understand the groove can be cut, I'd be tempted to safety wire or ziptie them as an alternative. I did not get the impression that the injectors could sink down into the port enough to come out of the rail but I recall that being discussed.

I bought the Ford 19# injectors several years ago for about $200, just needed the lower o-rings. Otherwise plug and play. Price has gone up since then I guess. Don't remember if it was blue oval or five-oh.
Need to find a spare S4+ fuel rail and clips so I can batch-flush injectors. Anybody got a used one surplus? Boogered fittings or tubing OK, so long as I can clamp a hose on it from my flush canister.

I have an early '86, stock injectors rebuilt by Witch Hunters with Ken's latest chips V4.0 I think. I am considering moving up to the 4-hole units.....my view is that since our cars have the ability to manually set the A/F mix with the resistor on the MAF I'll be able to manage.
The atomization should be better with the 4-hole units....and there is credence to them being perishable items...Witch Hunter provided a report back to me and while they were able to flow match a set for me they did mention that they are "showing thier age".
That being said I've had no issues whatsoever with my rebuilt units from Witch Hunter; they are on their 4th summer and going strong.

While I haven't had luck getting a clear answer, I think the last iteration of Ken's chips were 4.2 or 4.3. I get the sense that S3 updates aren't in the offing.
I have custom exhaust form the manifolds back on my S3.
Ken's chips and went with the 24lb/hr four hole Type IV Bosch injectors that went with Holden LS installations sourced from Oz.
Note that there is a lengthy, informative injector selection thread. Though like this one the comments meander among S4/19lb and S3/24lb options.
As an added wrinkle, FiveO recommended the disc injectors to me, and it is true that their spray pattern closely resembles the original pattern. The newer styles clearly give better atomization, but introduce other variables- latency (discussed in injector thread), degree of protrusion toward the cylinder, specific measured flows (there can be a lot of variability within lb/hr ratings- hence the value of the flow matching services...) THere are also a number of services available- I've had good luck with Witchhunter, Cruisin' Performance and Marrin injectors. Probably busy time of year for all of them.

My chips have just been ordered by Roger with some other stuff, can't wait. I'm not sure I can tune the MAF to the correct setting since I don't have the necessary tools for that so I will bring to my local import garage to get this done, this guy has done is apprenticeship on these cars, lucky me.

Well I pulled the trigger. Just fired off an email to Roger, I'm replacing the injectors. I really didn't want the car to sit there for a week or two, so...yay

What should I do with the old injectors? Is there a way to store them so they don't degrade further? You never know, they might be useful down the line.
