What electronics are underneath PS seat?
Is it just the AC parts for the rear seat?
I removed my rain rails awhile back to install a new windshield. Never put them back on due to needing new ones and was preparing for a upcoming paint on the top.
I parked my car outside and did not realize we had a rain storm that night.
I found the next day, PS, underneath the seat was full of water, a pool of water.
I soaked up the contained pool and tossed 30 (6x3) desicant bags on the floor.
Issues noticed since the rain, the car is not starting on the first key turn. In some cases, i must slightly press the gas pedal.
Did the distributors get wet from the heavy rain storm? I don't think the rain went foward into the brain and relay area. It was dry and i also had the foam kit for the flooring.
Thoughts, i have not started it since. been to busy with work.

When removing the windshield. The two long (painted) parallel rails on the roof. Its possible its not a rain rail but i had thought it direct the rain. Either-way, somewhere water got in the car. I just need to understand whats under the seat.

OK drip rails.... they usually are not removed for a simple windshield change since they ALWAYS get bent when removed and are impossible to ship ....not sure how that would let much water in the car.
Far more likely to be a leaking sunroof with blocked drains....

You need a new installer... $$$
What's under the seat depends on year and also equipment installed - if you have rear air there will be a solenoid refrigerant flow valve, if the seat has heat there will be a heat relay but it will be elevated on the seat frame. If you have passenger seat memory you will have the controller/relays but also mounted elevated on the seat frame. Next to the seat under the sill cover you will have the fan/flap controller and likely an audio amplifier. Prior to 1991 there wasn't that much there.
Nothing that would affect starting. What you describe sounds more like a fuel problem (pressure leakdown, poor pumping... more) not so much an electrical issue.
Double check the CE panel didn't get wet too - you need to find the source of the leak - it wasn't what you thought - so look elsewhere - else it will be back when it rains again...
If only the windshield was changed - I'd suspect that as a leak source first - look carefully for evidence of that.

Windshield, was a one time install by a big name company. I don't think they have seen many 928's
I have rear ac too.
The seat rail contained it like a small pool. I just rembered last year after washing the car I noticed a small lean from the sunroof. The computer location is dry and the other controls on the ps rail is up high and was dry. It's been two weeks. I'll give it a try again and see if the issue left. I hope the desiccant bags did their job too.

Do you mean the metal rails and trim around the windshield? Or the ones that follow the roof line above the doors?
My experience is the windshield sealant does not deal right and leaks that much water... Best bet is to take a hose and hose down the car and start looking.

If it comes from the sunroof - its usually obvious where the water came from (seat stains etc).
I think you have a big clue here and you are ready to ignore it - not smart.
Dig in and find the source before really expensive stuff gets wrecked.

Ouch. I'm not ignoring it. My sunroof is failing to close correctly without help. I need to repair the sunroof motor or inside rails soon. I figured I would make a round robin on the repairs. I've got too many darn projects with the car and home. I believe my alternator failed. Working out those issues now.
I don't have any stains because I refurbished the inside of the car.
I don't want my investment of repairs to go south either.
Yours and everyone's input is very valuable and appreciate the help!

Keep in mind that the sunroof doesn't seal when closed. There are four drains (one in each corner) that need to be clear for the water to flow out.
Lots & lots of threads about it.

Check your door seals as well. I had a puddle in that exact location in my GTS, which was water dripping from the back upper rear corner of the door seal, straight down to that spot, without running down or along anything.
This is all it took to allow water in at that top corner. I'd not prioritised the door seal replacement, because I thought the 'squash' of the seal when closed, would not have left an opening for water to get through.

Drainage of sunroof - yeah I figured this out the hard way on another car. Don't leave three foot of snow on top a sunroof. The melting water came into the car and id assume the drainage pipes were flooded. Ruined my SHO slide door. Started the car today, started with no issues. No hesitation and no gas feathering. So what ever got wet before has dried up. I'm taking of the alternator and replacing it due to a bad bearing noise. I'm replacing the old ground wire to the battery. Need to figure out why my car is having high idle when it's cold. My vacuum is reading 20 ish. I'm considering doing a smoke test and see if I have a problem. If not. I guess I should have bought a new ids while I was rebuilding the top end of my car. I really don't want to remove the manifold again. I'll check the door seal on Tuesday. If recall, I removed a seal when removing all the interior parts. I never installed it back and it's on the passenger side. No worries on anyone's help. Thanks so much.
