Default Wheel Question

I'm sure it has been asked already.....

I am looking to buy a new set of wheels. I really like the "deep dish" look but the only wheels I could find like that for the 928 are the ATP RIVA. Does anyone know if the 17's have the dish or is that just for the 18's? (from 928 specialists)

Also are there any issues with putting 18's on an 83S?

Thanks in advance

LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE A SET OF AFTERMARKET RIMS YOU WOULD PART WITH!

No issues that I know of. Your wheel source (Tire Rack, etc.) should have the correct wheel spec (offset, etc) info for an '83.

FYI: ATP rivas front offset is 47 (standard is about 65). VERY aggressive on the 928 (the limit). That said, they will fit and Tony has a set on his car which look quite nice. You should be certain your ride height is not dramatically lower, this might cause a concern given the aggressive offset (the lower offset means the wheels stick out further and the top of the fender could come down on them).

I have 18" ATP Reva on my 86 928. 8" up front ans 9.5" in the rear. I had to remove the rear spacer and use an open lug nut backed by the stock lug nut on top. No problems! The rear lugs sticks out but it looks cool to me!

A few weeks ago I took the shark on a road trip to Maryland for business, and encountered a couple of spirited drivers that I kindly spanked and gave a shark bite too. The first was a BMW 535 left at 110mph! Second, was a Lex SC400. Left at 130mph. Third, was a BMW Z4, left at 140mpg. I almost peed my pants!!! Bye the way, I had the shark chipped at Autothority while I was in MD. What a rush on the way home.

The 18" ATP REVA was impressive.

One thing to check into: I believe the 17" wheels are only available in one piece construction and 18" are two peice.

The good 18"s are one piece construction.

"Deep Dish" and the 928 really do not mix. To get some rim sticking out from the wheel face requires a very low offset number. My early offset 944 turbo had an 11mm rear offset and the wheels looked great with all that rim showing. The 928 needs a very high front offset number, about 65mm to be correct, though 52-55 will work with a 225mm wide tire. I have 17x9 fronts and 17x10 rears on my car, the fronts still have almost no "dish" but the rears look great because the rim is a) 10" wide and b) about a 55mm offset, that leaves a pretty good lip. Virtually all wheels that properly fit a 928 are going to be flush faced. Good Luck
