Default Driving my "new" 928 from Boston to Denver!

Greetings Rennlist
I have just arranged purchase of an 86.5 and will be picking it up in a few weeks, driving it up to Boston from Philly, and then from Boston back to Denver.
Time in Boston may be limited since I'll be visiting family and doing some running, but if there are any events too keep an eye out for, please let me know - I'll be there the weekend of Patriot's Day.
I am crazy excited!
This should be a great adventure, as I generally try to avoid the interstates and cruise the blue highways when crossing the country. This seems to be exactly what the cars were created for.
This will also be my introduction to Porsche, as the only german cars I've owned in the past were 1980 Rabbits! I expect the 928 will be a slightly better grand tourer.
So far Rennlist has been a wonderful help in providing information about the cars and helping me sort a couple of issues in my mind before purchase, so let me say thank you to everyone here.

Jonathan, congrats on the purchase. Guess you are running in the marathon?

Where in Boston are your family, I'm outside Boston about 30 miles, if you need any "unforeseen" 928 assistance before your trek to Denver.

Very good! That will be a good thread. I bought mine near Boston, but I was either too prudent or too cowardly to drive it home (20-year-old timing belt). I have some great blue highways in my area, if you generally follow I-90 as far as Cleveland. The frost heaves will be gone by then, I hope.

I'd stop by Stan's place (Mrmerlin) before making the trip. I don't know how much you've been researching these cars (ignorance can sometimes be bliss if nothing goes wrong). I'm not ignorant anymore (which can be a blessing and a curse)...so if I were you I'd be worrrying about TBF, timing belt slipping and mashing valves, water pump failing, etc. etc. Getting a stamp of approval from Stan would allow me to enjoy the adventure.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and encouragement. I'll be taking you up on offers of assistance if needed.

The car is a blue 5 speed, timing belt and porken tensioner 2 yrs ago, water pump at the same time, fuel pump last week, new alt/ps/etc belts this week, new tires when it arrives in Philly. Everything checked out with an inspection though I haven't seen the car in person.

I'll be running in the marathon and visiting my family in Dedham. I've done that before, and the people of Boston are amazingly welcoming and exciting during race weekend.

My general plan right now, always subject to change, is to head west from Boston through upstate NY, then angle down through PA - my copilot couldn't get vacation for the entire drive home, so I have to drop her at the airport in Pittsburgh.

All advice welcomed!

Congrats and safe travels!

My '80s Rabbit makes a fine companion to my 928!

Couple of us are a little North of Pittsburgh. You may pass right by us on 79 on your way to the airport. Contact me by PM if you want to do a quick get together.

We need pics of your car!

Congratulations on your purchase. Just a slight understatement on your part. Your 928 will be among the best GTs you will ever have the opportunity to drive.

The 928 is 2 cars in one. A road grabbing sports car on twisty roads and a super comfortable high speed cruiser on the interstate. If you have time on your way to Pittsburgh, consider taking an off- interstate detour to test out your sports car. You'll only be able to enjoy your cruiser once you hit northern Ohio.

If you don't have radar, consider using cruise control in the interstates. On my first long interstate drive I was surprised to find my car going over 90 -- totally unintentionally on my part.
