928 tranny question
Hey, just a quick question - the automatic transmission in my '79 928 will not stay in park (am assuming the pawl is broken) I need to move the car (haven't driven it anywhere since the above broke when it went into winter storage and rolled off the trailer on its own) other than trailering the vehicle, is there a risk of further damage if I drive it to the shop? (I have no idea what moving parts, if any, are in that part of the tranny) are the broken pieces going to get caught up on something or send tiny metal fragments floating around?
Thanks much
(p.s I can almost hear some groans coming from those of you who would never even consider driving the beast in this condition!)

Will have a look at the selector cable unit (was told by a Volks/Audi/Porsche mechanic that there is no adjustment available on the 928, but he hasn't seen my car). Thanks!

Burning Brakes
I have replaced all the shifter cables on all my early automatics they all seem to rust inside the cover and seize the cable where it rubs against the torque converter housing. I would get drive and revers but that was it, sometimes not even that. When I installed the new cables I put a piece of rubber hose over the cable at that spot. I hope that fixes your problem. I purchased my new cables from Roger they were about $200 by the time I got one here.
