Default Light gremlins.....

Hi guys,

I am having some truble with the left rear light cluster - all units out of function. Any popular connections to fail?

Left side front positioning light also out of function. Any ideas here?

Have checked all bulbs and cleaned sockets.

Thanks,

Christian

If the ground fails - no lights will work - start there.

Thanks Alan,

But wouldnt a ground problem cause "all or nothing". I suppose that the left rear cluster doesnt have a ground for itself!?

There is a ground connection just for that cluster in the tool area.

The wiring diagrams explain the location as: Wire connector, seven-pole, behind luggage compartment covering, left

I assume this means behind tool panel - cluster of brown wires - disassemble clean and reassemble.

Thsnks again.

The only electrical wires behind the tool panel is the ones for the wiper. Do you have a link to the diagram for the early cars?

Rear lamp ground is behind right-rear-inner quarter panel.
Bugger to get to it. Requires pulling rear-upper seat, rear seat side panel, remove all panel hardware and slide forward.
If this ground hasn't been cleaned, do it. Also clean lamp harness plug WYAIT.
Otherwise, just check ground from lamp ends.

Thanks Jim,

Just to be clear - is the ground for both the tail lights behind the right panel or is there a ground for both the left and right behind each side panel? I dont want to remove more than necessary.

Have a nice weekend!

So, it was a fuse after all. That fuse panel is not for the faint at heart!

There is no single fuse that affects all the lights in the cluster - I'm confused

Sorry Alan,

Im not much of an electrician.

Fuses for turn signal and driving lights were both with bad connection I guess.

Appreciate the help.

The CE panel refurb isn't that bad.

Took me about 5 hours to mark all the connectors (imperative!), clean and/or replace fuses, relays, fix broken/frayed wires, clean everything and reinstall.

One of the best things you can do to address weird electrical issues along with the mandatory battery neg strap replacement and ground scrubbings.

Every single electrical system works on my 82. Knock on wood....
