Talking Falling in love with my car...

So I took the new to me 89 928, 5 speed to Cars and Coffee here in Greensboro-around the corner from my house-apparently!!

Lots of looks, inside and out, lots of talks, lots of nice car as people walk by and I am away-a few questions while I'm there and 2 new car guy friendships. And lo and behold-there's a 78 silver 928 5 speed with Pascha. Come to find out the Pascha is from a donor car but it looks great.

Take the car out for a spirited drive with my 9 year old son in the passenger seat. Even with the wrong rear tires-just floored by how well this car handles, rides, drive, shifts, accelerates...

May have surpassed 130 (allegedly) on a nice stretch. Might have taken that corner marked 45 at 90 and still had 20 MPH left before breakaway (thanks option 220 LSD).

Went to the other car guy's house and he has a nice 5 car garage. No Porsches yet (may get an original 914 2.0 with 30,000 miles and no rust). Lots of Alfas and Brit cars plus his buddy's vintage 635csi.

Falling in love with my car...

Right there with you. I bought my first 928 —an 88 S4 — last weekend. It's beautiful, and in generally great shape, but it needs the usual TB maintenance and badly needs new brakes. My buddy and I are going to attack the belt and brakes next weekend, but honestly, I can barely wait.

Maybe not the best idea, but I drove it about 400 miles from Marin (in Norhern CA) to LA the day I bought it. I had a blast.

I feel like the famous Talking Heads line: "This is not my beautiful car…?"

Well. That's not exactly the line. But you get it.

Totaly understand the feeling, still falling, and wifey even has her toes on the edge of the cliff. During a return trip home today on the interstate, wifey gave me permission to "mash on it" and pass a slow driver in the left lane via the right lane, 68 to 91 does not take very much effort of the right foot.

It was a nice day for it yesterday, after the fog burnt off. That show usually has a very high quality diverse selection.

I am very envious. I finally had my 89 engine rebuild finished. Took it out for a shakedown and stopped at car wash to clean the dust after 5 years of being off of the road. Went to start it and had an engine fire. Luckily had a fire extinguisher in my car. Lots of melted plastic bits, and blistered paint on the newly repainted intake, but other than that, it doesn't look too bad.

Insurance wants me to take it to a mechanic for an appraisal and I might have them fix it just to get it back in a hurry.

Bummed is not the word. But I do see the light at the end of the tunnel. Later this year I will install Victor's S/C set up after doing all of the work on it.

Boy, during those 15 minutes of having her out, she felt GOOD. I was on cloud nine.

It's close enough.

"Oh my God! How did I get here?"

I keep asking that on a regular basis.

Bingo.

When I first got mine, someone mentioned parking it in front of a coffee shop/restaurant and sitting outside. Watching the reaction of the people walking past.

The kid who couldn't stop looking and ended up walking backwards until his mom made him turn around and look where he was going was the best.

And you guys are really mean. This thread and the one about looking at it.

It's almost nice enough to get mine out. But there's still a lot of salt and gravel on the roads. I prefer to wait until we've had at least two decent rain storms to wash the roads clean.
We've had one.

I'm getting really itchy.

And before anyone asks, I've had my flea bath for the spring, so it's not that.
