The annual Calgary-via-Logan's Pass-to-Kalispell run used to be a strictly motorcycle affair until some of us wised up and found the SHARK! Last year, it was 2 sharks and 4 bikes. This year it looks like 3 of each plus a Carrera. We were a bit concerned about the power to weight ratio of the bikes, and the lunatics that we run with, but it turns out that Rich's heavy right boot and the SHARK's long legs can keep the biker-hounds at bay on a trip like this. Sure they can bolt off the line, and they roll on from 60mph like gang-busters, but hanging on to a pair of handle-bars at 130+mph for more than a few minutes is apparently beyond their comfort zone. We waited for 10+ minutes for them to roll in, at the border crossing, and they were FAR less derogatory about the 4-wheelers when they got there!!

Sounds like the high boost and 10:1 compression is taking its toll... Mine is still in development. I have determined I have a 5 psig drop from the compressor outlet to the manifold, so the charge air cooler is getting upgraded. It should come in around 12 psig or so at the manifold....that should put the car making 420+/- at the crankshaft.
Be safe out there on the highway! I nearly swapped ends in mine last night under full throttle in 4th gear in the wet. It is an unsettling feeling when the back end lets go at 75 MPH. With the LSD, the back end of the car gets a mind of its own. I need to stop driving like Racer X in the wet.
Still, though a nice story of a hurt super-biker ego. The only thing better is slicing up a yuppie in a new M3.

Lagavulin,
WOW! That is a great story. I had a tight grip on the mouse just reading it. The outcome was amazing. I have been waiting for a tale like that to come from the Wisconsion clan. I am guessing now that you guys can pretty much take anything that is remotely legal to drive on the street from a roll.
Tell us some more about that kill list you had previously spoke of.

Although once you get into the category of supercharged beasts, it is hard to keep perspective...
It is almost like someone going to the gym, and then beating up the kids who used to tease you.
Instead of beating up other big tough guys...
There are tons of videos of boosted Supras beating bikes, and Z06's.
There are also a lot of videos of hyper-boosted Audis, etc...
There are also bikes running turbos, that run 200+MPH, with 300HP on a 400 pound BIKE!
It's awesome that we now have some 928s in that category.
But remember, if the guy on the bike, or in that Z06, does the same mods to their engine,
and boost it, the story may be different. But it is cool that there are people out there in
boosted 928s, giving us a better reputation. Each fast 928 gives other cars and drivers
more respect for our cars, instead of dismissing them as old or slow...

bc,
Bikes & cars are not in the same category. Running away from a "superbike" is an accomplishment in itself and is nothing like beating up on a weakling.
Any lighter boosted vehicle is likely to exceed the 928 in acceleration, but none are likely to be more graceful or comfortable at speed.
There will always be quicker ones, but not many *nicer* ones.

Well, there's always going to be somebody faster out there somewhere. I'd say that the above is pretty darn good for an otherwise stock S4, with some parts that were bolted on over a weekend. Remember that these are really also just the early pioneer days of any significant work and development on boosting 928s on any sort of scale. There have been boosted 928s in the past, but they were basically one of a kind situations, probably not much development done beyond that, with little or no information available on them. Even with the Callaway 928s, there were only a very few made. From the sound if it, more boosted 928s have popped up just in Wisconsin recently than the number of cars Callaway produced in total. From the sound of things, there's a pretty fair bit of work going on by various individuals to further develop this boosted 928 stuff too. Who knows what's going to be going on with boosted 928s by next year, or maybe a couple of years down the line. Those turbo Supras didn't start out making the kind of power they are now, and the same thing will be true with boosted 928s. We've seen a 500+ rwhp boosted 928 dyno chart. I'm thinking that the wait for a 600rwhp one won't be anywhere near as long, and also won't be the end of the line either.

Extremely well said. It looks like you have a very good understanding of the 928 forced induction trend. I don't know what Tim has in store for us but I know I am inspred by Lagavulin's story.
