Could use opinions on a strange vibration on the shifter button
The 89' dragged me out of the garage the other day for some fresh air.
When stopped, engine running at a red light I felt a strange vibration thru the shifter **** button.
It felt rotational. almost a slow grind. There were no noises and while it an be felt in any gear if the RPM's were extremely low it was not noticeable in neutral.
Experiences/thoughts? My concern is that 4500 plus mile trip I have coming up with plans for Rockport while in Texas.

could be a motor mount or trans mount issue as well.
If it gets worse then your headed in the right direction for a mechanic.
Sean can fix you up

Damn I would drive it..
NOTE it will be running better when you get there than it does now, I promise..
My Yellow car does the same thing, its OK for local driving,
but after a few hundred miles of running its really p-urring

Yes no problem with driving it in the early stages of torque tube bearing failure it starts out as a slight vibration the an audible bearing whir followed by clunks and bangs finally becoming a loud rattle....but it takes time !!!

Every time I've encountered bad TT bearings, the vibration was worse or at least present at higher RPMs. Low RPM vibration is more characteristic of bad motor mounts. Also, TT vibration can be due to bearing carrier migration, which is easy to check with a straightened coat hanger (if further in than 10-12 inches, the carriers have migrated). You say it's not noticeable in neutral. If this is a 5 speed, TT bearing related vibration would be felt in neutral unless you have the clutch actuated, which stops TT rotation. You can do this test sitting in neutral in the driveway. If the TT bearings or carriers are the culprit, vibration in neutral disappears when the clutch is actuated. With an automatic there is no easy driveway test. Whether it's motor mounts or TT bearings, neither of these undergo some kind of catastrophic failure but fail rather slowly with mostly just the annoying vibration (and some bearing rumble with the TT) getting worse over extended periods. Annoying but no reason to cancel a trip if it is one of these two issues.
