Going MS is not "that hard" if you know what you are doing. yes the base tune can be a fun adventure. but figuring out the base settings to get you started is not that hard. i spent about 2 hours on a steady state dyno to get where i am at today. my top end (5400-redline) still has some polishing and fine tuning to do, but its a blast to drive.

there are a few of us on here who have done the full MS conversion. most run batch fire (same as the stock bosch set up) and have no issues. i have the MS3X box so i have a few more options. mine is running full sequential (added a cam sensor) and i just added knock sensors today. the sequential is nice for bottom end and idle power, but makes no real difference at higher RPM.

installation was not to hard, basic wiring knowledge is needs and a will to sit down and do lots of pre planning and diagrams.

Pricepoint on the prefabbed exhaust is something else.

928Intl radiator- addresses a known maintenance concern at a reasonable price
Hans' speakers- really pretty excellent
Supercharger kits- Murph for output, Victor for value
Jager auto shifter- yup, I really like it.
Volvo motor mounts, just for the value
Also, I like the Motorsports front spoiler guards.

Rear muffler bypass is hands down the best after market install I've done. I get as many compliments on how good my car sounds as I do on how it looks, and I think it looks pretty good in my totally unbiased opinion

Another vote for Constantine super torque tube bearings, Roger's window seals and Marks metal belly pan.

Exhaust to suit your taste in sound and volume, otherwise a lot to be said for leaving the car as stock as possible.

In the eight years I've owned the car I upgraded the skid plates and changed to a Luisi steering wheel (nice!). Still considering x-pipe and S300 chips.

Many of the aftermarket "upgrades" are really downgrades or compromises at best. Some are just plan silly useless fixes to none existent problems. Quite often they arise because the real parts are "too expensive" whatever that means
The BEST upgrade is always going to be replacing the 20-30 years old items which were worn out long AGO ! Enjoy the car for what it is try to resist trying to make it something else.

I still think my cup holder is a definite improvement over the one that wasn't included from the factory. Modern tires 'cuz it's too tough to find original BFG Comp T/A Z-rated 245-45/16's these days... although I do have the originals still mounted on the original wheels, JIC. 'Unsafe at any speed' at this age though.

Based on prior misfires/attempts, I've concluded that I'm better off buying a car that has what I want, rather than trying to build that new supercar on an aging and technologically obsolete platform. Mines an excellent 25+ year-old example of a 45+ year old design effort.

The best upgrade might be a new Pana GTS or Turbo.

All my performance upgrades so far have been about replacing and repairing. New plugs, wires, top end refresh, steering rack replacement, A/C repair, motor mounts, hose replacement, distributor caps, carpet replace, seat recover, new windshield etc, etc...

I do have the metal belly pan, it was MIA when I got the car and it seemed smart to go with this option.

I second the skid plates, depending on where you live.... in So Cal we have some mean gutters on freeway off ramps and cross streets so it just makes sense. Though I would also check the ride height setting too, when I got mine it was way too low compared to factory.

I did install the Lizard shift kit, I like it a lot. Not sure if you can class that as a performance upgrade though.

As for exhaust, Greg Brown was nice enough to swap out the RMB the car came with for a stock GT muffler. Don't get me wrong I loved the sound around town but one trip to Vegas gave my wife and I a headache. I am now saving my pennies for Greg's own system. This is subjective I know, try and experience an RMB before buying is all I am saying.

I also upgraded the interior lights to LED, I like the look and it definitely reduces battery drain.

Finally I put in a new stereo, the car came fitted with an aftermarket amp and head unit so it was easy to swap it out for a bluetooth one.

As a final tip, mine likes to be driven... weekly use seems to keep things working well, as does opening things up when I can on the freeway or a nice bit of wide open throttle here and there.

Lizard short shift kit and all new bushings, from the gear box to the bell housing
Steel brake lines. I have headers but not sure if they are worth the investment.
Single clutch rather than a dual clutch.

I totally agree....truly words of wisdom IMO. Trying to make it "something else" destroys the value.

Every mod on my 79! Headers and Borla being my favorite. S4 brakes 2nd. I never really loved my car's suspension mods. I bought her that way. The ride was a bit TOO firm on the crappy NJ roads but GREAT when the roads were smooth. (Momo) Short shifter is a must on an earlier car. The factory shifter is three feet long! 930 steering wheel also a must. ALL pre GTS 928's should get the GTS rear view mirrors. It's not aftermarket but it makes a huge aesthetic difference IMHO. The flag mirrors clash with the body lines. I liked the carbon fiber cross brace for that snazzy look. The Kenesis wheels I had were fantastic looking and so rare. I should have kept them when I sold the car. I'll NEVER find another set. Last but not least the Nak looks nice in the 928 for a modern sound.

I understand this concept, and would agree on a high value, original classic, where you are afraid to ruin its value. I OTOH, bought my 84 in 2005 for $5K. I could buy one like it again today for about that price.
I have enjoyed my car for the past 10 years, but have used it as a framework to exercise my creative urges. My car isn't worth much, never will be, and I don't care. I could take every cent I ever put in my car and buy a 2 year old Honda Accord, not much more. I think I'll keep what I've got, and maybe work on some new idea for the car...
Take care,
Dave

New shocks and rubber. And while your doing suspension make sure to get a good 4 wheel alignment.

Oh, and one more thing with all the HP you'll be adding be damn sure you have good BRAKES!
Ha.

Enjoy your car!

Yep - the factory cup holder is really crap! For a long drive across the desert you really do need one.

Ahh too many things - I do like the keyless entry particularly though - used every day. I'm also very glad I (eventually) threw the stock rear hatch motor out and went VW (no more whirr-whirr-whirr...). Ditto on better tires also better oil, dual oil coolers, better wiper blades
