91 GT on eBay - thoughts

If the car has no rust issues, no accident history, and all original paint, its worth $27k.
If its had any paint, then its more like a $22k car IMO, which I'm sure will cause people to disagree with me . This is a very comparable car to the 91GT cobalt which is being so well documented here, except that car is cobalt blue (super-rare and desireable).
The problem here is the amount of hours of labour required to make it into a really good example. Ask Rob Edwards how many hours he's into the cobalt GT for so far - because this car needs all the same work doing to it (seat repair, carpets out clean, cleaning everything in the engine bay, replace gaskets/reseal intake manifold, cams etc.), and thats without the cost of parts and specialists.
If OTOH you're looking for a late GT to do that stuff to, and enjoy yourself for a few years, then even at $27k you'll probably break even after 3-4 years ownership (i.e. by then the value of the car will match the cost of purchase + remediation). Which isn't a bad prospect - lots of examples don't have the potential for originality that this car has. If you're fastidious, methodical and experienced at preservation/restoration or concours, this could be a great buy.

So you get it for $27K, then put a clutch in it, rack and hoses, maybe a front oil cooler, intake refresh, etc. Then the cosmetics... address the leather, whatever the paint issues are, repair curb rash and refinish the wheels, probably some weatherstrip issues, etc, etc. My memory fails me when I try to think of all the stuff I've done to mine (I have to often refer to my records), a car that I paid a "premium" for back in '08, although I understand the market is changing.
It all depends on what standard you want to bring it up to. Regardless, at $27K, you're into the mid-30s minimum if you do the work that you can yourself.
What's it worth with all these items addressed? Dunno... is it worth $35K? I'd love to hear that my 84K mile GT is worth mid-30s, but I'm not so sure. Needless to say, I'm into mine for north of that and paid $23K for it in '08.

To the OP - just for reference - don't be frightened off by what George and Hilton are saying - their cars are top 1% of the model (altho I haven't seen Hilton's, but I'm just guessing - he knows what he is doing). If you want to get to that level, then yes, you will spend. If you are looking for a good driver, with most of the deferred maintenance apparently taken care of, this car seems good (subject to ppi). Just buy it, drive it and fix the things that bother you as you go. For instance, I might not bother with a top end refresh, if the rubber is still supple. The top end looks good in the pictures, and that is something that may be able to put off. The seat bolster would be on my list of things to do sooner, but the carpet is fine, and unless I was trying to bring this car to a new levl, I wouldn't touch it (other than a good shampoo). Anyway, YMMV on these things.

CA would be a helluva road trip home! Probably would ship it, but I've heard lots of horror stories. Decisions, decisions.

I was hesitant to comment on the "driver quality" paint, acid rain spots......and rust bubbles near the fuel door, repaired accident damage on a 1/4 panel. All of which should be reflected in the price.

For any that are interested, I had offered the seller $25K if it passed PPI and he accepted, so jump on this if you want it.
He was going to be back in town early this week and said he could get the PPI done at the local dealer on Tuesday. He had another buyer waiting for the PPI as well. Good luck!!
