Default Hub Dust Cap Removal

Any tips for getting the hub dust cap off?

I've managed to get one side off using an exaust clamp fitted in the groove of the cap. The other side just does not want to budge.

I also made a little puller using an exhaust clamp with a bracket and nut welded to it so I can attach a small slide hammer. works great.

If you are talking about the cap on the front hub I used a wood chiesel [about 1/2 inch or so] and a rubber mallett to ease it off working circumferentially about 90 degrees at a time.

Regards

Fred

Got it. Just needed a bigger hammer. Used an exaust clamp, chisel and a big rubber mallet. Took a bit of a beating to get it off.

Had to fight with a stuck tie rod as well. Left side of the car much harder than the other side was.

I've used a small chain pipe wrench in the past. Didn't want the dust caps looking bruised and beaten.

What size muffler clamp? I think 1 7/8" but I can't find mine.
Thanks,
Dave

Screwdriver shaft ~5/16 - 3/8" dia laid in the groove between cap and hub (parallel to wheel, horizontal) and tapped with a hammer, work your way around the cap.

Small cold chisel , and work progressively around, but don't belt the crap out of it!
It always works.

I just used a big enough bit of metal pipe to make a tool the same as the factory one. Drill and tap for M6 bolts 120 degrees apart, then use a slide hammer.

Ball end of a 3/8" extension fits nicely in groove.

Just keep tapping with mallet alternately at 3 points 120 degrees apart and dust cap will ease off
