Very cool video. Anybody know the VIN of that car? So it was an 1987 model in 1986?

The car was found years ago and raced by mark Kibort on the west coast, crashed and then sold to Ed Stenke (OBehave) who was looking to try and restore it. Ed's shop is in Connecticut.

Any one have an update on where it stands in being restored?

I'm curious - did this distinction of "fastest production car" depend on a USAC-sanctioned run? Weren't there other cars that would have beaten it had they tried? Or was there a favorable definition of "production"?

There were other cars which were faster in 1987, but not subjected to the USAC sanctioned testing. Three cars which come to mind (in alphabetical order) are:
  • Callaway Corvette
  • Ferrari Testarossa
  • Lamborgini Countach

Each of those three production automobiles were near the 180 MPH mark, and with full width tires. The tires on the 928 looked suspiciously skinny, or perhaps it's the salt and angle of the camera?

I did wonder about the white doors. In the video, the doors looked white inside, red on the outside...
