Looks beautiful Lou and i like that you went single stage..

I am always curious what type and brand paint is being used.

The best of luck with this car.

Thanks Matt -it's slowly getting there! the owner of the shop, Andy uses Matrix System exclusively as the brand of paint, he is 65 and has been at the same location 43 years, and its what he likes, and at his age he is definitely set in his ways. But so far I am very happy with the results so far. I have been running back and forth to help out when I have the time to do so. This week I will try to get it towed back to my place, where it's a lot easier to do re-assembly. He still has the front fenders, rear view mirrors, and both bumpers to do still.

Lou,

Matrix is good stuff, I used it on a Bronco but used their base coat / clearcoat
it turn out real nice..

This part (assembly after paint) is so enjoyable.

The smell of a freshly painted car, taking your time cleaning all trim etc..

And visualizing it all together.

Enjoy it and may your hands be steady. take care.

Yes steady, slow and plenty of masking tape to prevent scratches ! Do you know if its easier to put quarter window metal trim in rubber before you install with cord on car?

That should work fine. Buy silicone spray to install rubber gaskets. It is what pro glass guys use. But they buy the thicker stuff. (sprays a very heavy amount)

I wish i used Matrix single stage acrylic urethane (just reading about)
the stuff i used (Dupont Imron) was very tough to paint and doesn't cut and buff.
You have a 24 hour window to cut and buff and even then it isn't recommended.

Enjoy

Thx Matt- I wasn't sure about these quarter window moldings, I repainted a '79 911 several years ago and put all the window rubbers back in, and with that you must put the molding into the rubber before you install the glass on to the car, or else you will never get the molding to lock into the groove, and stay secure. But after inspecting these , they look like the groove isn't as deep? Andy the bodyman has been wet sanding it with 2000 grit, and after buffing it, looks fantastic! I worked re-installing door latches a few hours today and Friday plan to spend a good amount of time putting the rest of the door guts together and installing quarter windows -will try and post more pics

Lou,

I did my 911 quarter windows and windshield that way too now that you mention it. I had a Prussian blue '86 and when we went to paint it 2 different colors came up under that code. One that is more blue and one that is more purple (which was right)

My In-Laws live in Raleigh, we just returned from a long weekend visit.

Maybe i'll get to visit with you and Ron one of these years.

More pics when you can

I was able to install l/h quarter window in yesterday - I had to do it twice- I found that you MUST install the metal center trim in the rubber BEFORE you install seal/glass on the body- if you try to put the trim in afterwards ,the hook on metal trim will NOT latch into groove in the rubber!
