If you are in the market for a very early example, in what appears to be superb shape, this is your car for sure. Couple of corrections, with a VIN ending in 0029, it is actually the 18th car, since US vins started at 0011. Also, the pasha is not coupled with leather - the interior is vinyl and cloth pasha; same as mine.
Also, and Jim or someone else can correct me, but it looks like the aluminum ball joints are still on it. Rear wiper is non-op. The venturi tubes are a later version, as the early ones tended to disintegrate, and they are nla and very hard to source. The radiator is a replacement (no surprise), and the respray looks good still from the pictures. There are just a few nits with it.
If that car stays anywhere near that price, someone will get an unbelievable deal. Check out Hagerty valuations, these early models have suddenly started to spike and are rising at a rising rate. Low to mid-20s could be a fair deal for it.

couple of additional observations, the miles look correct, as the shiney bits under the hood still hold the zinc/gold color. The engine bay looks very clean and untouched. The shocks look original. There will clearly be a few catch up things, but for a DIYer, these are very easy to work on. Maybe a couple of grand tops (assuming no major leaks, or other serious hard to find issue).
And before anyone shouts out about the jump post cover, the early cars did not come with one (doesn't mean it isn't a good idea to get one however).

A dealer has this one listed on their website for $18,900, which is overpriced in my opinion. http://bit.ly/1C3Nphy
It's just not prepared well enough to command that kind of figure.
I could go into detail, but will leave it up to you to perform your own due diligence.
However, a couple important details worth noting:
- It's not the 29th 928 built in '78. It's the 19th US built, with nearly 300 'Rest of World' Euros built before it.
-It's not Diamantsilber Metallic. No color with the name was offered that year
For comparison, here's a similar '78 928, also offered by a dealer: http://bit.ly/1yEx6Ej
Was listed on their website for $14,800. Now up for auction, also with reserve: http://ebay.to/1zUw3WU

From audifan here: http://germancarsforsaleblog.com/197...-928/#comments
I saw this Porsche at the Manheim Riverside Auto Auction where the dealer bought it on Jan. 20, 2015. It is a VERY nice car and very well preserved. I did not like the saddle leather interior. If it had black and white Pascha, I would have been very tempted. He paid 7.700.-- plus buy fee.

I'm really surprised it's over $17k at auction (and still going)
And I've known this 928 for over 3 years, and it's been publicly for sale since summer 2014. So this whole BaT auction thing is perplexing to me.
