Default Cruise Control-James Bond get away mode

I have been reading everything I can find about cruise control issues. Looks like the issue my rescued '84 has a name. James Bond get away mode.

When I first started driving the car the cruise control did nothing when pushing the stock forward. Now I have found that when I push the stock forward the control engages and just continues to accelerate rather than hold a constant speed. It's as if the car doesn't know how fast it's going. It does however cancel with the stock pull or a brake application.

Has anyone seen a common fix for this?

That is actually a correctly functioning feature of the cruise control, it allows you to accelerate without using the pedal.

What you need to do is replace the module as it is toast like many of ours with a new or rebuilt one or even go inside and repair it on your own.

It you hold the cruise stalk pushed forward - it should accelerate. If you blip the stalk forward and release - it should hold the speed you are at (or just slightly below). Pulling the stalk cancels and tip-up resumes.

I understand that.

Now if I blip it forward the car takes off and does not stop accelerating until I tap the brake or pull back on the stock.

I have read two or three other posts that the solder repair does not fix this issue.

If there is no definitive fix for this, I will buy a rebuilt unit hoping those other guys were wrong, I just hate throwing parts at a problem.

Here is a thread that had no resolution.

I had this on my 968. It was an intermittent thing. I'd try the solder the board first.

as Doc also mentions re soldering the board will usually fix most operational issues,
dont put the board into the oven to effect this fix
