FS G/28-11 5.Speed w/LSD $850 *SOLD*
Removed from my (on the road) 1985S. Approximately 80k. Shifted perfectly before the centering spring broke. Oil was clean and metal free. Broken piece removed. Comes with a free Lizard centering spring. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. If you would like it sent to Greg Brown's for refreshing, I will deliver it free of charge to Precision.

You bring it and I'll buy it! Even if something big is damaged, I can use the parts.

Sold to GB! I will make arrangements to deliver. It is all cleaned up. The box was shifting great. I forgot to mention the reverse lock out spring is gone. I will include the Porsche part for you.
Thanks Greg. Thanks Rennlist.

Now that the main transaction has closed, Colin is selling replacement centering springs? Last I read, that project was sort of in limbo. Is anyone preemptively replacing them out of fear of catastrophic failure?

I wasn't trying to imply the new part was failure-prone. Rather, are people replacing their original centering springs as a preventative maintenance.
I'm scared to death about transmission rebuilds to the point that I've stopped a decades old habit of verifying neutral by rocking the gear shift side-to-side.

Frankly, the centering spring is the least of the "long term" pieces that we are going to need. The lack of bearings is going to be more expensive to solve. And once there are no more "hard parts" it is going to get really interesting!
Ed Stanke is testing a new version of this centering spring.....made from correct materials with proper treatment of those materials. I certainly would have done this, but Ed was interested in doing this and I turned it all over to him.
If you are really interested in "conserving" your spring, go underneath and back off the tension a turn or two. Super simple adjustment to make...you just need to make sure that you turn it exactly one turn at a time, since it is also an eccentric that affects the position. Or, when you "feel" for neutral, don't hit the reverse gate. This is where the "high loading" takes place.
