Default Seats

I stopped by a upholsterer today to see what the cost would be to redo my seats. The $3000 price tag was about $1500 more than I expected. With that being said I am looking for alternatives. I would assume I can find some complete aftermarket seats for less. What have people on here gone with?

My seats are still original, but I've been looking at Cayenne seats.

I purchased a whole car just for the Pascha seats. The same can be done here https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...r-on-ebay.html
to get a really nice Pascha interior. Even easier to find a cheap car with a nice interior, unless you have a rare color. Plus, you can swap out the better of the 2 cars and then sell the full car that you used. With some labor hours, the swap can be free or very little dollars.

What kind of mods are needed to make that happen?

I also saw entire seats on Summit that are pretty cool. I don't know what installation entails or what features I may lose.

I can afford it now. Its the putting $3k into a $6k car that bothers me. Just looking for alternatives.

Cheap ricer racer seats are ok, if you're into bedsores on long trips.

Have you checked the classifides here? There are usually a few current listings with good used Porsche seats.

Not sure what the market is for Cayenne seats but $3k seams high when you can get 997 seats for a lot less:

Think of it as putting $3k seats into a $35k-85k car that you found for less.

Membership includes handy priv's, like being able to put the year/model info in a signature line. Helps to know whether you bought a very exclusive OB or an originally more expensive newer model. Until then you can manually plug that info into every post.

Yeah, meant to ask- what year seats are we talking about? Pics of the challenges your seats are facing would be helpful too. Big difference between a worn driver's bolster that just needs that panel replaced, vs. seats that a zoo lion took his boredom out on.

And, you are not too far from Rob Budd in Michigan. Look at his stuff and decide whether you want to try and fit something or let him do his magic on yours.

There are some Summit seats that are decently reviewed that I considered for my SC car, but I think they are a bit wide for the 928. Eventually I found some decent 928 seats on Ebay, they are blue and not linen but the car is a bit of a mutt and it'll be better than the Sparcos in there now.

Replacement OEM-style covers are not too expensive and you can use 944 or 911 frames with the 928 cover to expand the search for decent frames. You might look for a shop that will install the replacement leather on your frames or some frames you pick up for the project.

Its a 1980. The seats were neglected and dried so much that they are cracked and torn. If you push with your fist it will go through. I would go more lions boredom. The cushion/foam seem to be in good order though. Still pretty comfy. I have seen the kits on EBay for $380 or so as well.

I would send them off to Rob Budd and be done with it. Or as a compromise, buy his kit and have a local shop put it on to save shipping. Vinyl is $850, leather add $600. He charges $400 to install. So even with leather, you’re coming in $1K under your local shop.

Slippery slope if you buy other seats as they probably won’t match the rears (if you care.)

What is the difficulty level of install?
