Nice 928s that don't need a complete repaint and a new interior are getting really difficult to find....completely ignoring the mechanicals.

Any year, any example that has nice paint and a nice interior is worth 15k....primarily because a paint job and an interior like Porsche originally put on these cars is going to cost 30-40k.

I repair, hot rod, and restore 928s. A complete "freshening" (suspension, brakes, electrical, engine, transmission along with high quality paint job and high quality interior) is currently going to leave you with pocket change from 100k. And that's a really nice driver....no where near a show car!

15k for a nice example.....S2, S3, or S4....doesn't matter. It's a great deal!

This is the time! Pieces required for restoration are still available. The "buy in" prices are reasonable. Find the best one you can find, buy it, and make it as new as you can!

If you blink, this moment is going to be gone!
It was repeated once before, but I'll do it again. I believe Greg is dead on with his assessment.

A few years ago it seemed I could always find a good example at a relatively low price with a bit of hard looking. When I tried this exercise about a year and a half ago, I was surprised at how much harder it had become to find a nice 928 that ran, drove and was in good condition both inside and out with the specific options I desired. Where before, local to me, there had always seemed to be two or three nice cars for sale plus a few basket cases, the last time I looked, the basket cases had asking prices closer to what the nice cars from before had been going for, and the "nice cars" seemed to have quite a few more needs than I remember that group having in the past, along with the an accompanying boost in price. The number of available cars in both categories had also seemed to decline significantly. I decided to jump back in with car that was reasonably close to my ideal 928 at a reasonable price, rather than risking waiting for the just the right car at the right price and missing out.

Interestingly, I went through something similar with a specific model of Lotus I had been watching about 5 years ago, and now that car is now worth between 400% and 500% of what I originally purchased it for. For me buying that Lotus today wouldn't make sense. But as I already own it, it's mine to enjoy.

I will be surprised if same doesn't become true with my 928 over time.
