Default GTS vs S4 body quesitons

I'm on the hunt for another 928. I'm focused on an airbag year this time. I know 928's well but not GTS's as well as I know S4's/OB's. I always wanted a GTS and am seriously looking at some right now, but I have a few questions for comparison;

1. Is the body on a GTS only different from an S4 on the rear bumper cover (strip across between the tail lights) and the flared rear quarters/ rounder wheel arches)? Or are the front fenders different too?
2. Are the front wheel arches slightly more round than the S4's?
3. I believe the 90 and up (Airbag) interiors are the same cosmetically all that way to 95. Right?

1. Yes, only the rear bumper cover and rear quarter panels.

2. Starting with the '89 GT and all 90-95 cars, the factory 'rolled' the fender lips front and rear, but I don't think that materially changed the overall shape of the front wheel arches.

3. '90-95 interiors have some differences- While the pod, dash and center console are all the same, the shift **** and boot changed in '91 to the 'GTS style, California spec cars got a Check Engine Light in '91, the handbrake handle changed in '91, and the A/C got a recirc position in the control head. There are no other visible changes that I can think of after '91 through '95, other than which radios were standard each year.

In 1994 the AC Freon was changed to 134 and a removable air filter location was added in the blower box in front of the cabin evaporator.

The center console in the airbag cars, 90 GT through all the GTSs, is also different. The upper right corner is round rather than square and there is a very very slight difference in the shape, which I just discovered in doing the two recent Flush Conversions. My inserts, designed for the S4 and all earlier consoles, require some very minor modification for the airbag consoles.

In the realm of trivia - I believe the rear seat floor mats changed. My '90 front mats have integrated and shaped foam but not the rear, whereas a GTS I studied in great detail some time ago had the integrated foam in the rear mats as well.

And ... '91 or newer has the sound-deadening foam-backed self-destructing rear wheel arch liners.

r134a was, IIRC mid-93 change along with the pollen filter.

GTSs have slip-on 35mm spacers for the rear.

The 91 and later cars including the GTSs have rear wheel well liners including some sound deadening foam that is integral with the tops of the liners. These cars also have two unique welded on mounting points on each side for the liners in the inner top of the wheel wells. The liners for the GTSs are slightly different from the GTs to fit the wider wheel wells.

There was a Porsche Exclusive option for wider front fenders on the GTS, but I don't think anyone has ever seen those in the US.

Are those the add-on front fender flairs commonly seen on the GTSs coming out of Japan?

The last couple of years of GTS autos had the dynamic kickdown feature. I believe this coincided with the change from Cup 1 to Cup 2 wheels (at least in Europe)

With the 911 model, torsional stiffness was increased may times over the years in may different ways, one was by simply gluing in the windscreen glass on either 964 or 993s can't recall, but doing this with the front and rear glass rather than using the old fashion rubber gasket increased rigidity dramatically.

sweet928, your question reminded me of one i have had..

Did the 928 gain torsional rigidity over the years like the 911 so many times,
or was it already built so well and advanced for it's day.

My '83S is better built than my by comparison flexible flyer '86 911.
I can plainly feel the difference over the same surfaces.

This difference in build stood out immediately when i finally found my 928.

No, that's different. AFAIK no one anywhere has seen those wider Exclusive department front fenders some late MY factory documents mention.

R134a came to use in '93 MY. This means only early '93 MY US model used freon.

Interesting. One would kind of expect that a picture of them exists somewhere.

I believe the 91's and later like mine have a different steering rack. Also, have the roof top antenna.
