Looking to order new shocks for my 84 next week from Roger but tossed up on Koni reds or the Bilsteins as the Sachs/ Boge stockers are a little soft for me, Any input as price is not a factor ?
Look at Carl's set-up for Koni's with 2.5" coils. You can make it as stiff as you like.

For street, I'd go lower than the lowest springs listed. Well, unless you drive on perfect roads all the time.

I don't know about the Koni's but the Bilsteins are rebuild-able. I had all four of mine rebuilt (were on the car when I bought it so no idea as to age) by Bilstein USA at their Poway, CA repair shop for $75 each plus shipping. They can also be re-valved in the future should you decide to custom match a set of springs of other than factory spring rate.

$1000 for Koni springs
Leaving $100 for assembly.
I've got the perches and sourced other springs. The set-up is working well.

I've got the Koni Reds on my 89. The ride is firm, you're gonna feel almost every imperfection in the road. The car handles great. It's got great seats, so it's an acceptable ride IMO.
Current price on a set of Koni shocks is $720 - where did you get $1000?
My margin at $720 is very good. As a comparison TireRack sells for $752 a set.
Remember Koni's are internally adjustable with three settings - street, middle and track. Soft - medium - hard. And everything in between.

Koni's are infinitely adjustable. Well, lots more than three.
