Great story! I'm a 928 newbie and totally loving this car. The difference is that, while I could build you a house from scratch, I'm totally inept at car mechanics. Just can't do what you plan. I envy you!

That goes both ways, I'm terrified of doing the drywall in my garage. Lol

Welcome to the 84 Porsche world. I did the same just a month ago and I'm relatively new here, too. Granted my 84 had been driven recently and was garage kept. However, it had had very little work done under the hood (actually, none). I just installed the WP and TB, and I'm waiting for a new-to-me harmonic balancer from Mark. The harmonic balancer is aluminum...and it didn't like being dropped onto a cement floor. Weird, been a mechanic by day for thirty-seven years, never dropped a balancer before in my life...and then I do with my new baby...lol.
Anyway...
After I get the balancer on and the other stuff buttoned up, I will start it and make sure everything is correct. Then I'm diving head first into the fuel lines. They are thirty years old...and show it. I'd start doing them now, while waiting for the balancer...but I'd like to hear her run beforehand. That way, if it runs bad...I can go back to square one. I've found that that is much easier. Nothing worse than making several repairs and then starting it up...only to find out it doesn't run smooth. Then you don't know where to start in your diagnostics.
Good luck, with your new endeavor.
Brian.

Welcome. Nice to have another sharkster in Colorado. Do you ever have an opportunity to come over here to Grand Junction? I have a fender that will fit your car and can possibly bring it over sometime on one of my trips there. We also have a good group of 928 guys here, mostly in and around the Denver area, and we have an email network you will want to plug into called The Rocky Mountain Sharks. I'll try to have one of the other guys get you hooked up. I'll send you a private message (PM) about it.

Looks like a labor of love. Welcome and good luck. Having done some of this in the past, I hope you like detailed work.

Thanks man, I do have a little OCD that seems to really come though in my work. Every part that comes off won't go back on unless it looks (or works) like new. Bolting new parts back on is a bit of an addiction.
