your 84 is not a valve bender....so timing belt is not as big a deal. Makes it less critical as you do it yourself no worries about messing up and bending valves.
Thank you, I will hold this information dear to my heart for all eternity.
Oh, and if my wife sees this picture of a car part on her dining room table...keep your eyes open on craigslist...for a couple reasonably priced 928's...and an opening for a new husband.
And hopefully she will post funeral arrangements for those that are interested...
P.S. For those that may not be following along properly, I'm talking about the rims...not whether or not the hood is open or closed.
I was going to say, you really should close that hood before driving, for too many reasons to list
All kidding aside, I think those cup rims are the best looking rims on any 928. They are my favorite hands down. I'd have them on Blumaxx if they were period correct. For any other 928, I'd have them on for sure.
Went for a little "settle the suspension" ride, still needs a few more miles but she's getting close.
Looking forward to getting insurance and plates back on old blacky, now that the weather has finally, supposedly, hopefully changed for the better. Two weekends ago, we got three inches of snow.
It is absolutely unbelieveable the difference the motor mounts made, seems so, so much smoother.
Yes James, it's hard to decide...but I believe these will stay on for 2016.
My wife wanted to know if I planned on selling any of the other sets of rims and tires I have for this car (2 sets of original "correct" 7 slot platinums, the S4 polished 7 slots and now these Cup 1).
You're doing well then. I had that dilemma with the whole car :-)
Driving season isn't quite something we do down here - but I imagine it would ensure you don't take the good times for granted. Hopefully you also get a chance to take that push bike I can see in the reflection out for a ride too!
Very nice, just got a set for the chiffon car....my favorite wheels for anything bit 78-79 as phone dials are just 'the bomb'...
Don't know it is my imagination...but the ride seems quite different with these rims. Drove about 150 today, getting the suspension ready for its final adjustment...since putting in new rear struts, and even though I know the ride has changed some from the struts...it still seems much harsher (front and rear). Steering seems wacky when making tight turns, too. Could be the tires, though? I'll have to figure out the date code.
I'll give them a bit more time...
Yes, there is only one rim that totally belongs on a 78 or 79.
Well, after doing a quick measurement of the ride height...it was right where it was before (before new rear struts). 151mm front and 156mm rear, so the difference in ride must be the tires/rims. Yes, this is on the low side...but the car looks right (to me) there...so that's where I set it.
Anyhow, did a bunch of searching, reading, debating, deciding and thought I'd add 10mm front and rear. Just to see if this help free-up some of the suspension, and help absorb the harsher ride. Didn't make a bit of difference, but the extra height did come in handy...when my mom (82) got in the car to go see her sister at the nursing home. Even though the trip was only fifty some miles round-trip, my mom commented several times on the cars nice ride and being very comfortable.
When we got home, I told dad he may have to step up his game when he buys mom a new vehicle...since she was spoiled now...lol.
The car has picked right up where it left off last driving season, turn key operation. I've logged about three hundred miles over the last few drives, confidence is surely building with each mile.
Beauty! Also looking out for a wheel lock for the spare. Whenever there's a bump, it flops around and it's loud.
Plus side: it has an OEM air compressor
What was your final call on the 16 wheels vs. 18? How was the ride? I have a lead on Turbo Twist 18s but the chrome 'sewer grate' wheels are just cushy ride. Perfect GT.

Logged 300 miles today...and the jury came back with an unanimous decision...the 16 inch seven slot (manholes) rims and tires are at least three times smoother...ride wise...than the 17 inch Cup 1's. But, then again...the 17 Cup 1's have Michelin tires...and I have never been a fan of them, always seem to have a harder rubber than most tires.
But, while I was in the upper level of a store that sells the "crap that women look at while shopping" and waiting for my wife, I was looking out the window at old blacky...she did look pretty badas* with her new meats.
I would hazard that the ride quality difference was wholly related to the tires. The cup 1s are great wheels, and 1" wouldn't make much difference from a ride quality standpoint.
