Finally getting everything together to replace the leaking WP on my 82 next weekend. Replacing the cam belt even though it only has about 3000 miles on it and changing the cam gears from alloy to steel while I'm at it.
Luckily there is no need to change oil pump seal or cam seals and the tensioner was very recently rebuilt.
The harmonic balancer could use a coat of paint while I have it off. Is there a recommended paint for the job?
Do you just use an extra fine brush like a 10/0 for the white timing numbers or maybe a sharpened toothpick? There isn't much room for error while painting the numbers.
Thanks

I used a regular enamel paint when I did mine. To get the timing marks, I let the orange paint harden up for a week or so. Then I came back with the white paint smearing it over the marks. Give it 15-20 min. (depends somewhat on temperature) or so to firm up. Then I came back across the marks with a paper towel and lacquer thinner- verrry lightly and perhaps a few passes-- it removed the excess white paint on top leaving the indented marks nicely in white. i added one coat of clear over it all when done. It's held up well so far.
I couldn't see any way to do it well with a brush, toothpick or anything else.
Too many coats of orange paint in step 1 will likely not leave enough depth in the marks to do this.
Good luck

This was what I have done in the past with other projects.
Actually if the indents are deep enough, just a few minutes of time between the application of the white paint to wipe of is all that's needed.
Good luck with the project!
