First Real Drive

I bought this car in September and drove it home from Indiana, so seems a little weird to say I just had my first real drive in it tonight. But, I nursed it all the way home back in September due to a tension warning light. I spent the last two months with it torn apart doing a TB/WP swap plus a bunch of WYAIT stuff and engine de-mucking. Then, once put back together, it was overheating. I swapped the thermostat, but had to wait on the inner seal for the thermostat as the old inner seal was in bad shape. Lastly, the seats were stuck in the full raised position, which meant driving all scrunched up. But today I made jumper wires and used a battery charger to move the seats to a comfortable position.
I took it for a spin tonight, and I really felt like I was driving it for the first time. I've still got lots of little things to sort out, but at least I finally got a true taste of what it really is. I have to admit being pretty frustrated with it over the past two months - all work and expense with it and no fun in return. But I got a lot of satisfaction in tooling around the hood in it tonight. Looking forward to driving it to the local PCA breakfast in a few hours. Thanks again to everyone on here, especially syoo8, MrMerlin and Dr Bob, for all of the tips and encouragement. Now that I actually have a drivable car, maybe I can contribute a little more in this forum.

That's great! I also got mine in September in some TB distress (I insisted that the over-confident PO drive it to me before transferring title). I got it roadworthy soon enough to enjoy a few weeks of good-weather driving (plus two rounds of further deferred maintenance), but two feet of snow has me searching drawers for the battery tenders.
What did you find under the TB covers that put the warning light on? False alarm? Something slightly askew? Imminent failure? (Mine turned out to be fine.)

Know the feeling. Bought mine, nursed it home (40 miles) during the last mile it developed a trans leak above the heat shield on the cats. Smoke no fire luckily. Spent the next 13 months upgrading everything that I had read about on the forum that could pose a potential problem.
Happy to say 2 years of problem free driving. It was worth it. The 928 gives back more than it receives to her lucky owner.

It's an addiction. But you probably knew that already. Enjoy the ride!

I know exactly how you feel. I got mine in September and drove it little and gently until Sean did the necessary maintenance and it got new tires. Then came Third Coast. The drive down and back showed me this truly is a GT. The fun run showed me the car's amazing handling and performance. I'm still grinning from that experience.

I also bought mine recently in November from the original owner with only 24k miles and in pretty mint condition. Interior is perfect too. I paid $10k for it, but think I got a deal. I drove it home and started the TB/WP job and ordered a bunch of parts from Roger including the Porkensioner. I hope to have it back together by the end of January and maybe get a nice day to get it on the road at least once before the Spring thaw. I've always been intrigued by the 928's and now finally have one. So far the people on this site have been great with advice and suggestions. I have especially enjoyed the debates between several very knowledgable and passionate members who have stressed their views. Even though some of the debates seem to get a little heated, I think it just goes to show how passionate the 928 Community is and how much we care for these cars and want to keep them alive for us to enjoy as well as those who will get them long down the road. Keep up all the good work!

Beautiful car. Like the color and the stock wheels. When you did the TB/WP did you keep the stock tensioner of change to the PKT? I just removing the stock tensioner on mine tonight and it is great shape and wasn't leaking. I already ordered the Porkensioner to install. Although the gears and belt all looked new, the PO never bothered to have the belt or WP changed. The car is 28 years old so I didn't want to risk anything.

Scott - You need to come over to KC on a Saturday morning in your 928 and go to a PCA breakfast with me. Would be best to do it on the last Saturday morning of a month to hit the Cars & Coffee at the Kansas City Automotive Museum after the PCA breakfast.
Better yet, time it for that plus when KC Trends is having a Fast Friday the evening before (every other Friday night except during the winter).
Maybe we could get a few other Rennlisters to join in. We already have a policy that anyone arriving at the auto museum in a 996 gets free admission (3 of the museum directors drive 996s). Maybe we can add 928s to that policy.![rockon](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/rockon.gif)
Also, February will be Porsche month at the Kansas City Automotive Museum.
