Good morning all. I've been working on this sticker for my car (89 S-4) for quite some time. I know there has been a lot of interest in the gold foil stickers that go on the radiators of our cars. It really sucks that the ones available from Porsche are not the same. I've seen many of the threads on this topic, and the ways people have replicated them. Well, after a very long time of searching, I've found a company that can get a heavy gold foil and replicate these stickers. I've recently had a sheet made as a proof, and am now working to get the fonts as close as possible to the original. I'm also going to have the firing order stickers done as well. The foil is metal, gold, and very similar to the original. It is a very small fraction thicker though, almost unnoticeable actually. The reflective properties are the same, and the sticky backing is a high temp 3 M. You can see what my proof looks like as compared to the original in the picture attached here. What I would like is some input, and whether or not you think it would be worth trying to do a small production run. They aren't very cheap, as each sheet of 3 cost me about 100.00 to have made. I'm sure that could be brought down a bit if I ordered in numbers. Anyway, let me know what your thoughts are.
I'm very pleased with the result, and should have the next set with better fonts done in the next couple of weeks. On a side note, I'm thinking about having the paint code, VIN, and other stickers done as well. Eventually, I'd like to develop a whole set of stickers for our cars (think total repaint) that can be purchased in bulk, and with the right materials. Any input on this as well will be appreciated.

I've discovered that if you coat the gold sticker with clear lacquer, they hold-up really well.

Thanks for your reply Bob, I appreciate it. I'm doing this because I'm a stickler for precision. I too looked at other materials, that look good. I just don't feel anything other than the foils will hold up as well over time with all the heating and cooling cycles the cars go through. Plus, I'd like to do it just once and be done with it. That's one of the reasons I don't mind spending the extra money.
Perhaps it would be possible to get a range of price/volume from your supplier, and then maybe a poll here. "I would by one for $10/$20/$30..." would give you a usable sense of the Market. I certainly like the looks of the proto.
I’ve played around with 928 stickers for a couple years now and one drag is they used different ones for different MYs. Like below, the rad sticker on the bottom is similar to yours and the one above it is what’s on a GTS. Also notice the firing order is smaller on the older cars and larger on the GTS.
Same for the paint code stickers--they used different dot-matrix font and pitch for different years. To really do it right, each paint code sticker is almost a one-off.
Good luck with your effort. With the new 928 Intl radiators on the market, I would think there's a demand. Just be aware there's different stickers for different years.
I think that costing 33.00 each to produce is too much as well. The 100.00 I spent on a sheet of 3 was for an initial proof of concept. I think I can get production numbers done for considerably less money. I'm thinking I can get the final retail price down to below the 30.00 mark. The incorrect yellow one from Porsche is around 25.00. So, I think a long lasting metal one anywhere under 30.00 is a bargain. Once I get the fonts right with the organization I'm working with, I can do real numbers on real production runs. As I learn more, I'll certainly share it here.
I would be interested in a set. I'm a stickler when it comes to stickers. Not sure why and I replace them on all of my vehicles if they get damaged or missing. The ones for my Audi were extremely expensive. Yours looks great!
