Default Motor mounts

Im getting ready to order motor mounts from Roger (1987 auto).
Do the volvo mounts require any modification?
What else should I do while I'm in there? I was thinking sway bar bushings and maybe oil pan gasket. Anything else?
Thanks
John

The Volvo mounts need a pin ground off (as they come from Volvo). If you get them from Roger, that step will be taken care of. No other mods.

Oil pan gasket is a nice WYAIT, but it's a rather big addition to the job. The stud kit makes getting the new gasket and pan back on much easier (note that I said easier, not easy). The sway bar doesn't need to come all the way off, but it can if you want to replace bushings.

Steering rack bushings are also an option, because you are pulling the rack off of the crossmember.

You will undo the pivots for the lower A-arms, so ball joints, suspension bushings, or other suspension stuff can be done.

You will also find a whole lot of cleaning to do.

Dwayne's writeup on this is an excellent reference, just to cover all the bases.

LOL.... i am going through this now...do the opg.. not really any more work while you are there...

i am doing the stud kit, shocks, ball joint, steering rack bushings, and painting everything before it goes back on.

I'm also in the middle of this - mounts and OPG. I'm using the Volvo mounts. I'm also experiencing job creep...replacing steering rack bushings, probably shocks, etc. No painting, but lots of cleaning.

Check out Stan's (Mrmerlin) install notes and comments. He installed the Volvo mounts on his 85. Here's a link to the his thread:

Hi John, I did the mounts last year (Volvo mounts from Roger) note of caution, do not use the torq specs from the Porsche Motor mounts...you might strip the thread on the Volvo mounts. Use maybe 50lbs, i think the old mounts required 67lbs..or more..can't remember exactly off hand.

Do the Pan gasket too!! its a must

O-ring on dipstick tube, triangle gasket under oil level sensor, install GTS pan baffle, release flex plate tension, measure end play, install PKlamp(if not already done), steering rack boots, PS pressure side hose.

Nice plane, kind of overkill though for a wing run.
