WOW. BUT...please...keep the original rims and just add tires. It so rare to see an "original" 928 these days in that condition. (or keep them to put back on later)
fantastic find. this one will be one of those that will demand top dollar years down the road.
very jealous!
I have always loved those wheels and had a set at one point in time. What I remember is that the front offset on the Carrera III wheels might be a bit more 928 friendly.
My 87 needs more TLC than your new ride, it sat under a car cover for most of the last 14 years, but now it is also in Florida ..... so its going to keep getting better with time.
I went with the Panamera 18 inch 5 spoke wheels. 8 in front, 9 in rear. Offsets ET 59 and ET 53 respectively. I saw a number of these from Rennlist and loved the look and the front offset.
Tires - Michelin Pilot Super Sport. 245 35 Front. 265 35 Rear with a 6mm spacer. These things stick like glue.
I chose the 245 fronts because I read the reports about improved balance, less under-steer and better turn-in response. I am at stock ride height. I do not experience any rubbing even at full lock. I don't know about going around a corner at speed and hitting a big bump, if they might rub on the inner fender liner. I hope I don't find out the hard way. I feel like I took a bit of a chance on the 245 vs a 235, but I will let you know if any issues arise. So far, none.
Regarding turn in response, what a difference. Now, it has been a while since I had my last 928 so it is hard for me to compare the effect of a 245 up front vs 225. And the old front tires that just came off were 8 year old all season uniroyal tiger paw tires with lots of tread but I imagine very soft sidewalls. So when I got in the car with this current set up - holy $%#&@ what a difference. It feels so dialed in now. The steering response is instantaneous. Zero tramlining at speed. Just phenomenal.
One issue developed. The center caps that they had on the wheels were slightly concave, curving in towards the vehicle at the center of the center cap. On the fronts, the wheel hub dust cover was pushing the wheel center cap out about 1 or 2 mm. The didn't seem like they would come flying off, but it didn't look right compared to the back - not being aligned with the wheel. They found a set of wheel center caps that are flat, and I went with those. I preferred the others since they were black and white Porsche crest, these ones are all silver including the Porsche crest. I may hunt around for a set of painted, flat wheel center caps.
Anyway, here she is. A bit dirty as she has been caught in the rain here all week.
I've had 245s on the fronts for years, never a rub. That additional bit of width on the front makes a noticeable improvement to turn in and overall handling.
Other thing you can do in front is add a 5MM spacer, that will take care of the center cap clearance and also increase your effective ET a little closer to the factory 65MM.

Sorry Tom, but you're wrong. It would take the offset in the wrong direction.
I'd rather solve this by making the dust covers sit lower by applying some light violence to them.
